Right then. The Gixxer is now fully run in and a new tyre[1] is
    booked for tomorrow afternoon :)

    Can't wait!

    [1] I'm going for a B 014, a bit softer than the BT012. We'll see.

****. One trip and it's fucked. How many miles did you do in the end?
That's what mine is currently wearing. Didn't seem too soft, in that
there's still a fair bit of wear left after >4000km. Then again, mine
was carrying a bit less weight than yours ;-)

How many miles on it now?

I kept it under 9k until the first service but it was fair game from
then on. Mind you I haven't really explored the upper end of the rev
    range yet!
I'm not too impressed with them TBH (OEM on the K5). The rear has
some tearing 3/4 across the width. It could of course be that the K5
is a bit of a lemon!

It's done 3K in total now.

According to a Bridgestone chart I saw, the 14, is closer to the
    racing end than the 12.

Ah yes, I had a sleeping bag and mat as extra weight ;-)

I was a good boy until the first service, and reasonable until the 1k,
and now it's a free for all.

Mind you, having looked at the power curves, these not much point in
    taking it past 11k

As I haven't ridden for a while, it's difficult for me to judge
whether they're good or bad; a new boot will give me a comparison.

Heh. It scares the shit out of me in the upper rev range. But i am a
    bit of a wuss.
Are they 014.s or 012's as standard? Can't say I've looked. The rear
on mines compeltely fucked now anyway - 2.5k miles. Canvas by 3k I
    would think.

The K3/K4, such as mine and Mike's, came with the 011/012 combo as
standard, the K5 has 014s, or so I'm lead to believe. My K3 seems to
cope pretty well with 014s, though :)

The K5 comes as standard with 014s. I have 014s on mine and love them,
    best tyres I've ever had.

    Painful at the mo.

010's are tried and tested and very predictable. They may not be the
ultimate but who can use the ultimate on the road?

Mmm, not sure but I did think the 014's were the replacement of the 010 - ie
just as good, if not a little bit better.

Everyone I've spoken to rates them as better and some say they are more
suitable for track-days than 010s. I certainly prefer them in the wet
    to 010s.

I and 014's on the GSX-R for 1000 miles before being punted off. Didn't do
    many on it after that.

    Now I don't care as they don't make a 19" 014 :)

IIRC the K2 Gixxer had the 012 fitted as standard.

    New boot on £120.00, fitted.

Great I thought, as I hand over the cash and hand over the key and
they pipe up with take it easy for the 1st 100 miles!

So is 100 miles usual, or something less mebbie? Don't want to go
crazy, but 100 miles seems over the top.

It steers so much nicer now. Hadn't noticed how much the steering had
    been affected.

Protyre in Gloucester, told me that they had one customer who had a
K5, who has been getting through tyres at 700 miles. Sounds like a
    tosser to me.

Belt and braces mate. I have never done this. I usually do a few tight
figures of eight and that's it.
How do you know Protyre are tossers?
