Global warming - I love it :-)

  1. Gorgeous. 25C. Been out on the pushbike without shirt. Had a chilly swim.
If I hadn't already got a suntan, I'd be out there sunbathing.

Pretty decent over there too, no?

Looked at the calendar this morning and suddenly realised it's my wedding
    anniversary. Whoops!

It's been glorious all week here in the Limousin. Low twenties and
sunny every day with hardly any wind.
    <glances towards the horizon>
Looks like bad weather is rolling in from the west now though.

Not far short of that in London all week. Pity I will be returning to
    the frozen north on Sunday.

I was in Italy earlier this week and despite it being around 17 degrees
and sunny, the locals were wrapped up like it was Finland in January.

On the other side, it may be 18 degrees in Barcelona in spring and furrin
tourist would dress like it was Jamaica in august. Ladies can cut glass with
    their nipples.

  9. You mean I've posted something similar over 300 times? Or does that comma
mean something and you pressed send accidentally?

  10. "... I mean it's not even like it's hot there or anything."

Is that the school bell I hear?
Ah. Back to class children, and stop picking on the lad with the
    miniscule penis.

  11. I knew the date of the anniversary, just forgot today's date.

Taking her on holiday next week. Her: "But I've never been to Tenerife."
Me: "I'm not going there again, it's shite." That's it then, 7 days in
    Tenerife. Puerto Santiago.

I don't often use the ginge meme. But by ****, you've worn the
'another tough day in paradise' gambit to absolute fucking death
    by now.
It seemed more economical than ', um, how should I say,'.

  13. Bit of a fib, that. Everyone knows that the majority of my posts are
asking stupid IT questions. I just tried to prove it, but it seems google
    groups search is utterly buggered.

Paradise? I said it was unusually warm for the time of year (hence the
subject). This time last year it was cold and raining.

    Whatever.

    Just the heated visors.

I always knew they were clever over there.

I've wised up to a potential problem by purchasing a digital voltmeter
that simply plugs into the accessory socket on whichever bike I'm
using so I can see straight away if my heated clothing is sapping my
    bikes will to live.

I've already tried it with the heated grips turned on and the visor
heater burning away like a demon and it's telling me that the grips
hardly make a difference yet the face burner makes the reading drop
    from 14.3v to 13.5v

I'll wire up the jacket and gloves tomorrow and make sure it's not
going down below the magical 12v figure but as long as it isn't I'll
    be fine...

Actually the main reason for fitting a voltmeter was so I can see if
the connector to the reg rec on the Yam starts to act the **** again
and sort it out before it drains the battery leaving me in the shit.
At just under £15 inc. post and package it seemed like a bargain.

    This kind of thing?

It wouldn't surprise me if there is some volt drop through the wiring
when you've got the eye-dryer on. I'd measure the jolts at the battery
    as well.

    Er...

You'd be better off calculating the power consumption of the various
bits of kit you intend to use. Then check that the altenator on your
bike has enough headroom to run it all at the same time.

If you load it to the point where it is reading 12V whilst the
motor is running at say ~2-3000rpm. The battery won't charge and
you can expect a TOG style event and loss of the magic smoke,
in fairly short order. IMO, anyway.

That kind of thing, yes. Not that exact unit but something that does
    the same.
I was going to wire in a conventional voltmeter at the battery but the
trouble then is that it's got to be fixed on that bike alone whereas
with a plug in one I can swap it between the Yam and the outfit. I
only want it as an early warning type of device so I know when things
are going wrong and this was the easiest way to achieve that.

This assumes that I've got the mental capacity to work out that sort
of nonsense and the truth is that I haven't. No doubt someone here
would be capable of explaining how to go about doing this but right
now working out how much power the bike is giving and how much I'm
demanding of it confuses the **** out of me.

I was assuming that because the accessory socket is wired directly to
the battery if I check the voltage through there the worst case would
be it could read lower than the true reading at the battery. Now if
this is the case and I keep the reading above about 12.5v then I
    should be ok?
