A certain ursine illegitimate of this parish has attempted to put a
friendly spoke in the wheel of my current "let's replace all Grumpy's
gear this year" project, by the simple expedient of recommending (and
indeed selling me on the idea of) a pair of gloves that no **** makes
any more. Very helpful. Anyway - I've taken a fancy for these
    http://www.getgeared.co.uk/HELD_2510_Phantom_Racing_Gloves
, but to me (aye skint, me) they seem a bit much at 135 squids.
    Anyone used them?
    Yes/no/maybe/alternatives?

I bought a pair for £20 from a show. They worked fine for years
until they got "tested" during my bone-breaking qualifying session.
They held up well enough to be replaced them with another £20 pair
    from ebay.

    They are absolutely excellent.

I've watched three of my racing mates throw their bikes up the track
repeatedly in Held Phantoms, and none of them has ever suffered any
hand injury of any kind. Danny has been wearing the same pair for two
years and has crashed a few times in them without any real damage to
them. I think Olie scuffed a pair up when he highsided his 675 so he
got new ones that matched his new leathers. That really is stingray
skin on the palms and knuckles, extremely hard wearing and resistant to
    abrasion.

My own gloves are Held Galaxys, and they've been superbly comfortable
for race gloves. The RRP of those was 130 quid 5 yrs ago.

My gloves have suddenly developed a hole in the palm of the left one
so I need to source some suitable replacements. My normal choice is
Spidi unlined race gloves (in whatever that years style is) so that's
probably what I'll be looking for over the next couple of weeks.

I find that the Spidi race ones are comfortable straight from the shop
and they don't go over the top with heavy duty armour which can leave
them feeling a bit numb if you go on a long trip. They're decent
quality leather and well put together so worth whatever I end up
    paying for them.

Crash resistance? I've had one 'off' wearing them racing and wore a
small hole in them and suffered no injuries hence me carrying on
    buying them.

They'd be ideal for Marina, tho.

They seem to come well recommended.

I've used Alpinestar GP Pros for the past 5 years of racing, and
they've always looked after my hands very well. Ok, so I broke some
metacarpels in my latest off, but then I broke my jaw too and I had a
    fucking Arai on.

Seriously, why? No helmet manufacturer has ever claimed that the
helmet will protect you from *any* impact. Jeez, I nutted a telegraph
pole at speed - I'm moderately pleased I *only* had a broken jaw, and
    not a broken skull.

Just to let them know the facts. Maybe it would help with a design
change? If nothing else to thank them for a jolly nice helmet.

I smashed the chin bar and did my jaw no good with an Arai Giga and the chin
bar of my RX7RR was cracked in 2003. One wonders what would have become of
the open face with bandana and shades brigade!

OTOH, fullface helmets look so _wrong_ on an SOB like the LE.
OTOOH, the LE doesnt go fast enough to bust too many bones.
Which is why I have 2 helmets.
