What a waste . . . http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,23703499-3102,00.html
Yeah . . . What happened to his younger brother? Alex? He was doing well a few years ago but I don't follow the scene much any more. I recall interviewing Anthony when he was in Tasmania while I was making a documentary about Australian Motorcycle Week in 2003. Anyway, I'm interviewing Gobert in a pub after dragging him out of another pub up the road and asked him "What do you think of Tasmania's touring roads?". "Dunno mate, I don't have a road licence'. WTF? But it seems he has never had a road licence. Weird. That floored me and totally threw my line of questioning for the rest of the interview. My earliest recollection of him was on a Kawasaki I think, at Donnington (or whichever UK racetrack has a corner called Melbourne) where he was backing the bike into corners like it was a dirt bike. I was sure he was going to bin it or **** his tyres but he just kept doing it lap after lap. So, yeah - it's a shame to see a talent go to waste like that. Doohan was a party animal like Gobert in his early days, but Doohan made the choice to focus. Pity Gobert didn't . . .
He had been riding AMA superbikes the past few years I think. He used to log onto IRC occasionally but haven't seen him there for yonks. Nev.. '07 XB12X
Yeah - that's where I recall him from. Seemed a nice kid. That would be nearly a decade ago though. My, doesn't time fly . . .
