Gone bush

I went for a ride around Chum Creek - Yarra Glen on Thursday.
I like to go bush and find dirt roads, tracks.
I understand that riding alone is not the smartest way to get about in the
sticks expecially when the temp was 30+.
Usually I blurt about at a relativly slow pace and see where I end up.

Last Thursday I nearly left the bike behind!

The track I was following turned into a downhill stream then back into a
    track.
There was other tread marks so I know someone else had ridden there but I
think it was on something a lot smaller than a DR650.
On the way in I got stuck on two logs and had to push my bike over.
The way out was a lot harder work with at least six logs needing a bike
push and dropping the bike once while doing so up hill.

I would say that it was one of the best/worse tracks I have been on. I
enjoyed it very much and will never do that one again.

Have I mentioned that I love the DR650?!?

I am going to buy a PLB next week and I am glad I had the extra water with
    me.

Tracks going in are fine. Tracks coming back out again are better!

It's rather lonely with a broken bike and broken bones on a deserted
bush track, hoping someone will happen by...
Don't ask me how I know.

  11. Thanks for the story.
I love going out on bush tracks by myself with my DR650.

    Yeah, I should know better...
I guess that is part of the buzz.
I do normally hold back but this time I got sucked in, it really was an
    inviting track!

Now I will carry the PLB when it arrives.
    I will carry a UHF.
    I will carry my mobile.
    GPS is fitted.
I have a waterproof USB outlet on order.

Thursday I carried extra water that ended up being just enough... with
conservation. Now on I will double that again, at least.

There will always be risk though.

I went riding in the sticks when the temp was in the mid 30s this
weekend too. The beer is cold and the burgers are big at the Nindigully
Pub. Be nice if it was a bit closer to Melbourne, though :-/

Yes, and at the end of the day, if you need rescuing and you've
activated your magic PLB, and you've cost the rescue authorites
thousands of dollars winching your sorry mess out of the bush and
choppering you to hospital, I hope someone assesses whether your own
recklessness and stupidity played a major part, and if so, orders you
to repay all of the costs.

PLB-activating thrillseekers should be made to pay for the costs they
    rack up.

    Just sayin'...

Wouldn't it be easier just to instruct the emergency services not to
respond to any PLB distress calls? You could probably extend that out
to any emergency response involving anyone who was taking more risk than
the mean, say, any motorcyclists regardless of where they are riding. :)
