That's non-Austrian riders/drivers, and it's well known that Austria has
an open season on foreigners every summer.

If you intend to be in Southern Bavaria around 4-6 July, you won't get
a hotel within at least 30Km of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

30.000+ BMW riders will be descending upon the place and the hotel
prices are climbing rapidly as they begin to sell out, even now.

OK, no worries. If you want to go there and stay there for longer than a
couple of days it may make sense to let me know early-ish.

Makes you wonder for how long, doesn't it?

Oh well. I suspect we'll behave in Austria and Germany.

On second thoughts, I suspect we'll intend to behave in Austria and
Germany, on the basis that we're in no hurry.

In the end, I suspect we'll simply carry a few extra euros, just in
    case.

The Austrian scenery is so spectacular that I've never wanted to hurry
    through.
any fines will be minimal compared to the tolls that the Austrians charge
on the tunnels and high passes. Don't forget the vignette, about 4 euros
for 10 days if you need to use A or S roads. Big fines if caught without
one. On the plus side, petrol was relatively cheap there. The AA says 24c a
    litre cheaper than the UK

Another road remembered. It may be too far south for you, though:
on my 1st trip to Slovenia I took the B99, rather than the A10 through the
Tauern tunnel. The road sort of runs parallel with the A10, goes over the
top of the Obertauern and then drops down into a valley to run underneath
the A10 which clings to the side of the valley, sometimes hundreds of
metres above you. A combination of spectacular views and mind boggling
    civil engineering.

Now I never knew that - and we did a fair few miles there last year.
    Oh well!
