    Google does it again...

"A free software download from Google.
Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all
the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically
locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts
    them
into visual albums organised by date with folder names you will
    recognise.
You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create
new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organised."

Getting slow in your old(er) age aren't you? It's been recommended
    several times on here before.

Google's software is getting a little too Big Brother-ish for me.

Google groups doesn't return any hits for the url.
When is Darsy going to sort out that meme tracker?

this is hardly news, though - I've been using Picasa for well over a
    year.

    no-one wanted it, IIRC.

In any case, I've not written a line of code in over 18 months now.

I've had that for a while, and it's a good bit of software. It does
what it says it will, it's responsive and it just works. Recommended
if you've got more than about 10 photos on your computer.

    *sigh*

I mean I've been using Picasa 2 for well over a year.

    <fx:checks google>

    It came out Jan 05.

In general Picasa has been around since 03.

BTW, I've just heard your org and mine are going to move towards a
"closer relationship" from a tech. POV.

    Ah ok.
I know there are some inroads being made, like the contacts stuff,
and we're certainly co-operating more. We had a chat about VoIP
yesterday as apparently your lot are kicking off a big project to
look at doing this but we're in the "can't be arsed" camp atm.

    I assume this was a joke but . .
You can tell it to look only in certain directories.

in fairness, it only got a lot of hype when Google acquired Picasa.
this was more network integration stuff.

Need to read up on MPLS...

What on earth do you lot need with that, BTW?

On a tangentially-related note, have you tried

    http://www.hamachi.cc/ ?

You security guys will start foaming at the mouth, I imagine

It only presents them to you in a friendly interface, it doesn't upload
them anywhere. You can restrict where it looks and you can "hide"
directories so they don't show up straight away when the program
starts. I think you can then unhide or show hidden stuff, but I've not
    needed that bit.

Saves money on running separate networks with separate routers
requiring separate licences and support contracts, at a guess.

It's our core services and networks guys rather than my team, but
basically it's for implementation of VPNs over frame relay.
no, but I'll take a look.

I realise I didn't mean that. But then, I'm not a networking guy, so I
don't really know what I mean.

"just some stuff about VPNs" and LAN-2-LAN bridges.

Heh, that was kind of my initial point - I didn't think you really /did/
networks. Then again, I don't really /do/ voice, but look what I ended up
    being architect for ...

well, /I/ don't do networks. But the entity I work for /do/. And we
have several sister and daughter entities in the US, and far and near
East that have their own networks currently. They're going to
    virtually connect them all up.

As the kike says, saving money in licencing is one driver. Easily
    connecting up systems is another.
