Was what I was asked today when I popped into Motoden, a Honda dealer
close to the office, because I needed an oil filter for the 400 Four.

"Erm, no. It's the same filter as Honda used in dozens of bikes."

"Only our parts system doesn't go far back as that. Hang about: I know
where I can get the part number...."

And he logged onto Dave Silver's website, which made me grin. All for
an oil filter. Well, two, actually, because I'll stash one away for
    Ron.

But ffs: something as basic as an oil filter: I'm used to parts bods
just reaching behind them, without even looking, and handing over the
    things....

  2. Yersh... but... oh yes, you're right.
I knew a Kawa dealer who could recite the part number of a GPz305
    crankshaft from memory.

I knew the part numbers of the 50 fastest moving CPE[1] items when I
worked at BT. Thankfully I can't remember any of them now.

[1] Residential stuff wot goes in yer house rather than
    cabling/commercial stuff.
