  3. Hey archon,

Sounds like you got a great buy! I'm running an '02 Firestorm myself,
and couldn't be happier with it! You're dead right about the
Staintunes too - beautiful note, but don't be surprised if your
    neighbours stop talking to you!

Anyway, back on topic, here's a link to the dude who's fitted Blade
forks to his Storm. Can't say I could be bothered myself, but hey,
    each to their own.

    Enjoy your new ride!

    Matto :)

While this subject is still fresh....
There's a distinct metallic rattle in the engine. Perhaps rattle is a bad
word... it doesnt sound "painful", and the bike runs perfectly well. My
assumption is that big twins have noisy cams. It's hard for me to judge
having just come from the quietest bike you've ever heard, and never having
owned a v-twin before. The bike has just had a safety inspection (ie, one
week ago done by the previous owner) and no probs reported.
Or am I slowly killing my new toy? Will take it to someone with more
experience to have a listen, but thought I'd get some opinions while I'm up.

  5. Sounds like you'd better split the cases!

PS Safety inspection don¹t have a bearing on the internals (nice one, eh),
unless its blowing smoke, in which case it wont pass.

  7. Engine out, rocker covers off, heads off... Split the crank case

If the engine is like the old VT250, its a prick to fix the cam chains and
    tensioners...

OK, I guess I did have some idea after all. Turns out it's all normal VTR
    sound. Yay.

  9. Cant remember mine being rattly, but i guess it depends on what you've just
    come off of. Hamish?

You swine, how dare you imply he had just gotten off me!!

The rattle has been the same since I bought it from a reputable lad that had
looked after it well. I must chase him up and get that second key off him.

The one thing that reduced me to fits of swearing rage was that NOT putting
a decent amount of gaffa (or reinforced roof mastic) across the front
cylinder head to divert spray, would turn the 1000 into a 500 single. Not
much fun between the Clyde and Bungendoore in the rain at night as day one
of my two touring holiday-conference-drinkfest in Tassie.

If you are still worried listen to an elderlyVF750!
