Why on earth do they want the licence if they can go that long without riding?
Why stop there? Don't ride on Ps either. They got their heart set on a classic?
    Say a Z1?

Don't you mean GPz900? It's not a matter of going 'that long without
riding' because AFAIK he's never ridden bikes, besides doing the
learners training. He's one of those people who have always thought
about getting a bike but never got around to it. I think he only got
keen enough to do the learners course because a few people around him
bought motorbikes, and only sat the licence test (a few days before the
birth of his first child) because he was "TOLD"[1] that he wasn't going
to be allowed to get a bike licence after the kid was born.

    G'day Nick,

I'm quite happy with my Er-5, I've only had it for about 7 weeks and have
done about 1,500 kms in that time , as far as I'm concerned it's got enough
grunt for just about anything except doing crazy blurred speeds. At this
stage of the game I've only used it breifly on highways as I've just got off
the L's and was stuck with doing 80kph but it'll sit on the M5 in Sydney
comfortably at 110-130kph with no complaints. At these speeds and above you
become a windsock. They turn nice and tight, very easy to manuvre, will beat
anything on 4 wheels at lights if you get up it abit but i'm a bit inclined
not to rev it too hard. Up to 7,000rpm and you'll get good performance and
I've had it once up to 10,000rpm (500 under redline) and it'll pull 110kph
    in 2nd gear.
I find it quite comfortable but I haven't yet been on a long trip but end of
Nov I'll be doing a 1,500km trip up the New England hwy to Glen Innes then
East to Grafton then back to Sydney over a week and a half staying at relos
    so I'll have a better idea how it'll go on a trip but being a 500cc, I
reckon it'd be a good little tourer. I've got 280kms out of 11.75 litres so
    it's not thirsty.
My old man is an ol' bike nut from way back and he can't wait to get his
    arse on it hehe.....

    Hope this helps nick
Go for a ride on one that is used as it'll be run in so you'll get a good
idea how they'll go, you shouldn't be dissapointed.

    Cheers

Lean on the wind at higher speeds, it can be a lot more comfortable than
at lower speeds. Helmet wind buffet is a bigger issue than being a
windsock - having your head bounced around is very tiring.

It's not a problem, I just get all tired after having my head bounced
    around and need a sleep.
