    hi all,
i treated myself to a nice new bike last week- nothing fancy just a 125
aprilia MX but a brand new '07 plate all the same from a main dealer- very
happy, never had a brand new bike before ;)
i just noticed something though - in the manual it says to copy down all the
plate details from under the seat - however... this plate states that the
bike is an '03 model manufactured in '03 - my friend's same bike (06 plate)
which he bought 2nd hand is marked '06 model...
Should i care that i've been sold an '03 model bike? I can't see much
difference between my '03 and my friend's '06 and was perfectly happy with
the bike until i noticed the manufacture date... should i go and batter down
the shop door or is this normal practice ? Still happy with the bike !
    cheers :)

Andy C banged the rocks together and they said :

Jesus, you've paid full price for a 4 year old bike. Even if you're
happy with it, I'd go back and demand at least a 25% discount.

They're unlikely to give you it, in which case return the bike right
there and then, demanding a full refund, and then go somewhere else and
buy the same bike, checking it is an 07 year one this time.

Did you pay the 07 price? Get any discount?

i got a good price... but only in line with what other dealers were offering
me for the 07 bike when i phoned around-
i'll double check the chassis number with aprilia today to make sure there
    isn't a mistake on the plate !
    cheers,

  6. Did the dealer tell you it was a 07 bike?

Would you be interested in an '07 plate custom twin?

It has large skinny wheels, very low-profile tyres (you might not be
able to see them with an untrained eye) and says "Stephensons Rocket" in
    the side.

Actually, it's about the same era of design as my bike.

    hi all,

nah - i'm already considering an '08 plate one of those i've been offered at
    a very reasonable price

i did ask if it was an '07 bike... and they told me the '06 spec version of
the bike was exactly the same as the '07....
which on reflection bears little relation to the question i asked -
i was warned about the shop beforehand too ;)

actually i phoned aprilia today with the frame no. - they told me the bike
is an '05 model and all the models from 04 onwards are identical so i cba to
make a fuss - i would probably have still bought it anyway if they'd told
me - i think they should have been a bit more up front tho
    cheers,

Normal practice for cunts maybe, but I'd be inclined to shove it up the arse
of the **** who flogged it to you.

Still happy with the bike !

But will you still be when the time comes to sell it on? I doubt any
prospective buyer would be happy paying '07 prices for an '03 bike. Well
    apart from you, that is.

btw, I've got a '93 VN 750 which, according tot he V5 states it's date of
first registration was 1999, but I doubt anyone would pay the 1999 price for
    it if I sold it.

You must have more money than sense then which makes me wonder why this is
    your first "new" bike.

i would probably have still bought it anyway if they'd told
    You think?

  12. Ah, so you wanted a problem?
It's like that story from the bible about that bloke who was happy with
ten groats until another bloke came along and got paid 20 to do the same
job and it's not about being up front, you just want to ask the right
    questions, Jim Lad.
