    Hi All,

Was having trouble starting the Duck (748) - It sounded like the
battery was flattening. Was turning over slower every time and
eventually I had to clutch start it. Took it to gowenlochs and they
said it was a Regulater? That was $10 and $60 labour as it took him a
while to deceide this was the case. Had to get the bike jump started
to get home. Next day - same shit wouldn't start so I took it back
and they said I needed a new battery - $145 - no probs...

Next day I had to clutch start it again and took it back and they told
me it was my starter motor and they could do me a second hand one for
    $600...

Does anyone know a decent ducati shop? What about northside?

    Cheers

    James

  2. Ahhh! I've figured out your problem.

You've got a broken Ducati Shop, and you'll need a new one.

I can do you a reconditioned one for..............

  3. Obvs. not the problem, would not have been the regulator for only $10 thats
more like a fuse price , unless he cocked it up and it was $60 for the reg.
(still to cheap) and $10 labour ?

Have you been starting it with jumper-leads this can fry the electrics if
    done wrong?

Bypass all these so called experts and head for a proper auto.elec. who
    knows what they are doing

They would run some tests and have it sorted in no time at a fair price

The weak link in most motor field is the dealers workshops and mechanics
    "NFI"

    Yellow pages is your friend
No need for a newie ,these can be rewired

anyone know a decent ducati shop?

    Frasers or Bologna Italy

    What about northside?

It can be a combination of problems, but I'm sure they've fixed em all now!

Sometime the starter motor will get a dead section in the windings or they
burn out etc and can 'cause slow or no starting if they are currently at the
"dead" point when trying to start. If you've got a new battery and it's
fully charged and it still won't turn over properly then yeh, sounds like
the starter is fucked. Take it to an motor rewinder or something and get
them to reco it for you, should be able to do it no probs.

Often these things can happen in threes, I know my electrics on the
(notorisouly bad electrically) GSX250S were like this. I replaced numerous
batteries and finally replaced the reg with a high current aftermarket one.
I still reckon the stator was probably semi fucked but never bothered to
replace it. (or did I, actually, I think I did, 2nd hand why not eh?) but
the starter was atleast always ok.

Still sounds like the mechanic didn't quite know what he was on about. Takes
a little while to test for the problems but not long (20 mins tops) then it
should be pretty obvious what exactly is going wrong.

$10 would have got you nothing

    a regulator is $400+

did you up them for the $70 that didnt fix it the first time ??

what about the $145 for a new battery that still hasnt fixed it ??

gowies are usually very good but guess you got the poor service that always
    comes around
    sometimes

electrickery is sometimes a black art
starter motors are a common problem

also check the connections to the starter motor they are easy to get to if
you remove the right hand fairing

water gets into it and rusts it and gives a poor connection and makes it
    hard to start
    reds penrith
ducks need a good charge , near max charge to have them start

it will also take a long ride to charge them as they use so much power
    between headlight ,
    fuel pump and electrics

  14. If Frasers (NFI) have "nfi" then that is sad

Those guys are the offical import agent and have direct contact with the
factory and can get all the tech. support and help for any sort of problem.

In any case in a few years Ducati SpA will take over as the offical
importers and set up a factory owned business here in Oz just as soon as the
volume has reached the magic target level, prices *w/sh/ould* fall too

They have been doing this in more and more markets worldwide.Jappers have
been doing it like that for decades it is the only way if you are going to
    be serious

sad but true, they make money and couldnt really give a shit IMHO

have you seen the service myth ad in magazines with i am assuming fraser
    himself
in overalls and holding a spanner LMAO

it says a 'minor' service and a more 'inclusive' service
wondering who the marketing chief was for that piece of information
    problem.

yeh but they cant get me some stickers for more than 8 weeks so i ring north
    coast and he has
several on the shelf in my hands in 2 days along with all the seals i
    needed for the clutch slave
    douut it

prices wont change as they are making money , ducati is becoming more and
    more
harley esqe every day that goes by , a marketing company

The couple of times I've asked them for parts other than oil, O-rings or
gaskets it's been the same story. None in the country, they'll have to
order 'em in, could take four weeks. Say, "**** that," get the part number
and ring Morgan and Wackers. "No worries mate, got half a dozen out the
back." Sweet, 25% cheaper to boot!
Donut about you but I doubt it. At least the importer will be accountable
for the product they sell. Harley's supposed to be giving Frasers the
flick too. Frasers have made squillions (in land alone). They can't be in it for the money
and couldn't give a **** about motorcycles or their customers so they must
just be doing it to piss off the respective motor companies!
