GP: boke no go in Snowys?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Sep 6, 2006.

  1. This came through the MCC delegates list. ders planning to take the
fun bit through the Snowys to get to the GP might need to re-think.
    ============

I was asked about roads in the snow country (Alpine Way and Great Alpine
Road) being closed to bikes this year during the Moto GP pilgrimage due to
    "requirements to carry chains!"

Australia's round of the MotoGP at Phillip Island has traditionally been
in October. However this years reworked calendar sees Australia slotted
in as the 14th of 17 MotoGP rounds on September 17th.

Apparently this new date is within "Winter" and as such chains must be
carried in order to use these roads.

Ring the Bright police station on 03 5755 1444 if you want some more
information on "Bike no go zones."

BTW this year has been one of the worst snow seasons on record.

  3. " A cold front approaching from the west will move across the region
tonight and develop into a low pressure system off the NSW coast on
Thursday. The cold front is bringing significant snowfalls throughout
the region that will continue overnight. The snow will ease to snow
showers on Thursday and Friday as the low moves out into the Tasman Sea,
however an upper cold pool and southeasterly winds are likely to cause
snow showers to increase again on Saturday and continue into Sunday. "

Big dump tonight. Sixteen feet of pure white snow by next Wednesday may be.

You've got at least of couple of chains, Moike!

(on a practical level, wrapping rope around the tyres apparently works
    as a temporary measure)

But I've got a chain officer. And yes it's attached to the back wheel.

How else am I meant to mono at GP? Shafties don't mono...

True, two that I know of
(and the 4WD has got a drive chain as well!)
That might be handy this weekend.
