You can borrow Dad's Bike[TM] if you like - it shouldn't cost more
than about $5 to post it down to Geelong... ;-)

I was reading the blurb on the Melbourne Uni's graduation ceremony which is
similar to what one of those older institutions had. Apparently there was
supposed to be much raucous and merry making and such as the students
entered the hall.. hardly any of that during my brother's ceremony though..
Then again, I'm from Uni of QLD where the Chancellor does a tricky little
"here's ya Roll off ya go" thing without missing a beat as he sends you away
    with your bit of paper.

    I have been present when:

    1. A student (my father actually) was pompously presented with a
completely blank roll of paper, except for a small pencilled note asking
him to call at admin on Monday. They'd run out of certificates. [1]

    2. A flasher, naked under the gown.

    3. A guy who accepted his scroll, then moonwalked off the stage.

    4. On a more somber note, a woman with no regalia at all, who accepted
the degree on behalf of her daughter, who had died in a car crash just
days before the ceremony. Quite touching actually.

    1. Another amusing part of that ceremony, was that he hadn't bothered to
go to rehearsal, he just figured he'd do what the others did. The order
of the ceremony though was alphabetical by faculty, highest degree
first. He was getting a PhD in Ag Science. I'm sure you can work this
    one out for yourselves! :)

    Hey John, fess up.
Did you use the "rub the Lamp and I'll grant your wish" line when you were
    dating?

  8. Melbourne Uni in the late 80s the biggest cheer of all the Arts students went
to a blind chinese girl... the only person who received a louder and longer
ovation that day was the same girl, a bit later on, when she received her Law
    degree.
