want to put my garmin nuvi 250W on the new bike, so it sits just above the
yokes, it's too wide to fit between them.

whats the recomendations for doing this, i want the gps to sit as close to
the bars as possible, i.e. i dont want it on the end of one of those ball
mounts with the stalks between them if i can help it, but the thing needs to
mount onto the bars between the yokes, so need it to raise it about an inch
    if that,

dont think i'll need to tilt and swivel it, on the scoot i just got a
universal pda mount and screwed it flat onto the 'dash' next to the rev
counter, was pointin slightly to the right, but i could see it easily
    enough.

i know the nuvi 250 isnt waterproof (ram are bringing out an aquabox big
enough for the wide models mid may, but that'll muffle the speaker totaly,
and make it hard to connect the charging lead i imagine)
and i also know it hasnt got an audio out to feed an intercom, but when the
warrenty is up i may open the fucker up and see if i can piggy back a 3.5mm
mono earphone connector off the internal speaker, but not expecting there to
be room inside for that to happen really.

I bought a mount for my TomTom One Europe - it's basically a two part
    kit consisting of:

    * a clamp that fits round the bars (with a number of thing rubber
inserts that you use to match the diameter of the bars). This can be
angled and then tightened. It's flat on one side, with lugs that
    connect to...
    * a specific mount for the GPS - this slides onto the clamp and
"clicks" into place. The GPS then slides onto this as it does the
suction mount that came with it.

Note, it doesn't tiltor swivle when it's fitted and tightened, so
there's a bit of messing around to get it in a position you like.

I got it from ebay, for around £14 delivered, from these people:

They might do one for your nuvi.

Sounds interesting as I have a TT One. What are you doing for
    waterproofing?

so far, nothing. I'm only really half-heartedly experimenting with the
SatNav on the bike (currently the powerlead runs from under the seat
across the tank and is just cable-tied to the bars - I couldn't be
arsed trying to take the tank off[1] and routing it underneath). I
really don't ride in the rain unless I have to - for the French run,
if it's a bit wet, I might cover the TomTom with a clear sandwich bag
and tie; if it's pissing down, I just won't use it.

A couple of years ago, someone posted a link to someone selling latex
sheaths designed for this application (as opposed to just using an
actual condom, which I've also seen done), but I'm buggered if I can
    find the link.

I need to get myself a cigarette lighter socket to connect to the
battery and stick under the seat. I was then just going to shove the
unit into the map pocket of my tankbag.

Given I'm going to Scotland in September on the thing, waterproof is a
    bit of a requirement

    yeah, that'd work.

I sold my magnetic tank bag to someone about 7 years ago, and I doubt
one would fit on the Tiger's tank anyway (far too round).
oh, god yes. It'll piss down at least once ever day you're there.

Best of all, I'm going in order to attend a wedding.

    On a boat.

    On a loch.

    In the Highlands.

I've only done it once, but it wasn't too bad iirc, other than the
petrol pissing out when you disconnect the pipes as they don't
self-seal (at least they didn't on mine). Just be very careful with the
pipes as the fittings break easily, especially if they haven't been
    replaced under the recall.
