GPZ 500z indicator relay?

  1. Hi all,

    I am flumoxed.....

Two GPZ 500s ('88 and '90), now both with the same problem after my lad
swapped indicator units from his to mine, in attempting to fix his none
    working indicators.

The wiring of both seems to be same/similar.

At the flasher relay socket a +12v via a brown wire, ground via a
black/yellow and orange which goes to the switch. The actual indicator
relay (on both) is however a two pin job, which is only connected to
ground and the orange wire which goes to the handlebar switch. The
brown positive seems to have no connection. From the switch it goes to
the lights of each side + warning lights, then to ground from each
    light.

If I link across the relay socket between brown and orange, the lights
come on and stay on as you would expect, depending upon the switch
    position.

Having swapped the relays from one bike to the other, now the
indicators on neither bike work. What has me flumoxed, is how they
could have ever worked with no apparent connection to the brown to
    provide a positive (+12v) supply.

My best guess is that there was some sort of adaptor between the socket
and the relay which he has managed to loose on both bikes.

Could someone take a look at their relay and see if the socket is a
three terminal and the relay a two terminal job please?

  2. Harry Bloomfield formulated the question :
A diagram might be worth while:-

    3pin relay socket .---.
    |-| L |-|
    | .---. | Left
    brown (+12v) orange o-----|-| L |-|
    ------------o o----------o---- .---. |
    o o-----|-| L |-|
    | | .---. | Right
    | blk/yell |-| L |-|
    | (ground) '---' |
    |To ground

The relay only has two pins, which connect to orange plus ground.
