green slip - wtf???

I'm over 30, maximum NCB, never had an accident (either at fault or
victim), only ever had one speeding ticket (9 years ago)...blah blah
blah, as near to perfect record as you could hope for, insurance wise.

So why are these the prices I was just quoted for my green slip? NRMA is
especially ridiculous, given I've had my green slip with them for the
last several years and never been quoted more than $250.

Insurer Price (incl. MCIS Levy & GST)
    AAMI $507.00
    Allianz $514.00
    CIC-Allianz $508.00
    GIO $293.96
    NRMA $508.14
    QBE $282.00
    Zurich $507.00

Bloody hell. I know they're really screwing people over with the MCIS
    levy, but this is unbelievable.

Or maybe the MAA is just a bunch of deadshits? I just went through the
estimate process on the NRMA website, and it came out at $310. Still a
rip-off given my record and what I've been paying previously, but a damn
sight better than the $508 the MAA said NRMA would charge. It makes one
ask serious questions about the worth and reliability of the MAA as a
    source of information though...

Some info on the bike'd help :) I got quotes of 120-180ish from the same
places. I ride a 250cc 2 year old bike, and am 36 with gold license zero
points on it no accidents blah blah (doesn't mean some 'wit ain't gonna
clean me up in the car tho).

You know the worst thing about NSW green slip prices? NSW riders who
get comparative quotes can't just pay the cheapest premium.. they feel
some strange need to bitch and moan about the most expensive premium
instead. Is it really so traumatic?

    NRMA wanted $650 from me.
Ended up paying $350 to GIO

I have no idea how they calculate these premiums or why such a huge
    difference.

Does show that you need to shop around every year.

  7. Ah! Looks like you have one of those road tearing monsters that pack
more than 301cc. Statistically speaking, this year you should tear
through at least 10 school yards and squash about 65 kids. Someone has
to pay for all that third party damage you're likely to wreck upon
    the world.

Incidentally it's about the same for my 400cc, twice-a-week,
mostly-offroad, trail bike, except for the two prices under $500,
since I'm not 30 yet and still in the game of riding footpaths to
    hit pedestrians.

So, that's between $4.50 and $7 per child. Sounds reasonable.

Its a case of most not wanting the business for some reason. But the day we
stop bitching is the day they will really screw us

Well, you should beat them at their own game. Pay their high premiums
and **** them over good and proper !

Did you not notice the rather obvious comment re one of the most
expensive quotes being from my current CTP provider?

Of course I'll be getting the cheapest one, but why does that mean I
apparently have no right to be pissed off by appalling customer service
    and even worse prices???

I would suggest that you write to your local state MP - if you can be
My local MP is Howard's Whore, and I'm not sure she's even smart enough
to read, let alone act on matters of concern to her constituents.

  16. Thanks for venting. Good first step in establishing grounds for change
through corroboration of experiences. The experienceless can leave
their head in the sand :p

Having just returned from 10 weeksin the USA and the UK the difference
is so profound. The UK is like Australia in this regard. Americans
don't suffer in silence, they vent, with the outcomes that they
generally receive better service at all levels.

The UK and Australia treat the situation differently, we suffer in
silence, walk out the door, and never return. That leaves the company
confused. Their customer numbers are down.

What do we do? We are losing customers!
    Advertise!
Excellent idea, but advertising is expensive.
    We'll put our prices up!
    Excellent idea!

So we pay high prices for crap service because we DON'T VENT!

    Brad.

Anyway - all in all regoing Fritz cost me 217. 120 for the green slip,
97 for the RTA. I thought maybe I'd get stung since it's a few weeks
since I got the paper but paid it today no problems. Again, Fritz is a
newish 250 roadie, I'm 30+ no points and all the other good checkboxes
    ticked.

That was with QBE. I don't have any other insurance with 'em either.

Yes, They're a company, not a friend. They won't cry if you stop
    giving them attention
If they give you appalling customer service why do you give them your
money? If they charge you worse prices why do you give them your
money? If you're not giving them your money why are you complaining
about their customer service and their prices?
