The pub up the road has it in as a guest beer. I was pouring some down my
    neck earlier this evening.

This Pinot Grigio isn't too shabby, either...

  7. This <reads bottle> Palacio del conde gran reserva 1998 Valencia is a
bit thin but the Rioja earlier was lovely. I should have gone for the
second bottle of that rather than the 'lets pick the wine that's
    dustiest' approach.

One of the pubs on Bedford High St is called the Hobgoblin and I think
you'll guess what one of the 'resident' beers is.

Nothing to do with it being owned by the brewery who make Hobgoblin ale
    then...

The Hobgoblin in Maidenhead rarely has any ales on pump at all, despite
being owned by the same firm. The one in Reading usually has one
Wychwood beer on pump [1], alongside ten or so guest ales and one lager
    [1]

[1] usually served with a sniff of derision by the landlord

World Cup 98 was quite a blurred affair, thanks to the local Hobgoblin pub
which just happened to be the first pub between my then flat and the town
when I had the misfortune to be living in Luton.

Dogbolter ale, another of their brews and 6%, was being served up at a pound
    a pint.

I'm not sure, but I think a lot of their own brand ales are reserved for the
pubs they at least used to have, with a micro brewery tacked onto the side
    of it.

I think you're thinking of Firkin, not Wychwood/Hobgoblin.

    Ah yes...

Like I said, it was quite a blurred affair, not least due to the brew
    concerned. ;-)

The last bottle of wine I tried was from Tescos and it was 1.99 or 2.99.
It was very nice and not at all vinegary and tart like most other wines
I've tried. Even the best Champagne tastes like White Lightning to me.

That seems to be the problem with a number of things! ;o)

I've had distilled Saki once, and also some sort of moonshine made from
vineleaves when I was in deepest, darkest Spain (Pontevedra). Both were
bloody disgusting. Nigh lost me lunch on both occasions!

    Especially the best Champagne.
Cava is a better glass of fizz and much cheaper.
