OK, but the problem is difficult. Now days you get sued, shot, etc.
Not only that but, like Brian pointed out, it's really irritating to
the people that DO have the permits and stickers or whatever but you
can't tell. They shouldn't be hassled by the rest of us just because
they don't look like they shouldn't be there.

I think I get your point. And I agree with it.

Seems to me there are always people who are going to "abuse the
system." Excessive efforts to make the system abuse-proof wind up as
    self-defeating.

At the same time, there are always people who seem scared to death
that someone is going to get away with something. It REALLY gets
their goat to think someone may get away with something they
themselves chose not to do solely because they were afraid they
wouldn't get away with it. :)

I do what I want and pay attention to the consequences. :)

Well, that works fine on my Virago. Not so well on the VStars (and
other bikes) that have no centerstand. On my wife's VStar
(affectionately referred to as "Mumford"), she holds it up and I check
the oil. I don't really know what those without riding partners do,
but I'm pretty sure they figure SOMETHING out. :)

I suspect for most folks its one of those convenience things. Other
folks have the challenges Sunny points out.
