Amazing how much difference having properly set up carbs makes, isn't
    it.

Picked the behemoth up this afternoon - started first time and pulled
its revs up straightaway, something it hasn't been keen to do the
    whole time I've had it.

Possibly something to do with the pipe broken off the side of carb two
actually turning out to be the feed to the choke mechanism - without
this, it was getting more air than normal rather than fuel when the
    choke was on.

And now the really unexpected bit...

When I bought this, I accepted that, what with it being a big heavy
nekkid bruiser, it was never going to be all that on fuel.

The best I'd got out of it up until now was 34mpg.

Today, as well as pulling through with much more vigour through the
mid-range, it's done 40mpg over a mix of country lanes and A roads,
and without me being particularly shy of the throttle.

I don't think that's bad at all for something this hefty. :)

I'd think that's bloody good. ISTR my Sprint only does about 34ish. ICBA
    to check though.

In the defence of all the faired stuff I've had, whereas I could
generally blat along at 'eek' mph on those for mile after mile,
anything about 80 on this for any length of time knackers your arms
out, so I tend to not be hammering along quite as quickly.

But... I've been dropping it down and giving it full beans to clear
cars etc, plus the occasional blast, so yes, bloody good... especially
given I used to only get about 43mpg out of VFR750/800s on a run.

Be interesting to see how long it'll be before the carbs go off again.

<cue predictable 'it'll be long after you've sold it' style comments>

I suppose that may have a bearing. Most of my miles were clearish
motorway, so 80 was typical speed.
    Not from me.

That sounds piss poor to me. My Sprint usually gets 50+ per gallon
(including some *very* high speed blasts). The only time it's ever dropped
below 50 is in the rush hour in London when it does around 45.

Last tank before this went into be fettled, I'd ridden it in a similar
stylee to today, and got 28mpg.

Given it's a sort of B12 in drag and the low figures some have
reported for those around these parts, I'd assumed it was just the way
it was, and decided maybe I'd not be riding it about as much I'd have
    liked.

    :)

Sure it never got that good. I may mis-recall. Simon Wilson may recall,
as we had some chats about his Bandit.

    No... it isn't.

Was the point of the comment above lost on you?
