GSXR600/750 info

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Mr. Fantastic, May 4, 2005.

  1. Currently mulling the purchase of a GSXR600/750. Anybody know of a
buyers guide or some kind of general info about the two models?

    Cheers!

    One is a 600, and the other is a 750. :)

Before buying my gixxer at the weekend, I spent a little time looking
at the old MCN (sorry) reviews. These can be down loaded as PDFs.

Brand new or one of the older ones (2001 onwards) or one of the very old
    ones (<2000) ?

K2 had a change to the exhaust sleeve and different colours (and a different
    reserve gauge!) than the K1.

MCN has a fair number of reviews, otherwise have a look at :
    http://www.mcnews.com.au/Testing/Suzuki/GSXR600/2001_Page1.htm (K1/K2)
    http://www.insidebikes.com/bikebible/reviews/suzuki/gsxr600/gsxr600_main.htm
    (k2)

    http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=920&fArticleId=2215149 (K4)

Most of the bike mags will have a review of the latest model somewhere in
    them.

750 will be more fun, but harder to insure.

For the K4/K5 you are correct.

    There were quite a few more differences between 2000 - 2003 750 and 600
    though.

  8. Borderline. Probably whatever I can get for circa £3k.
    Bonzer, cheers!
Oh yeah, I'm going to get some sample quotes too.

    Ta much.

    Would think for £3000 you're probably looking at a K1 or K2 600.
My K2 with 16000 on it sold in a dealership for £3800, but it was in superb
    nick.

Would suspect you can pick up a reasonable'ish one for around your budget
    privately.

Weggie was selling his one, but I think he wants more for it than £3k.

Yeah, it's partly wanting more comfort but mostly wanting more torque.
Just considering options really, I'm actually loathe to sell the ZXR.

Just to butt-in and digress, anyone know anything about the older
versions? My brother wants to change his bike, and I might take his
old one off him as it's done him OK. It's not ideal for me but it's a
cheap bike from a known source that I can maybe use for a bit.

'98/R 16K miles, black & silver standard-ish apart from normal
low-cost mods, pretty decent nick with only minor corrosion, but not
immaculate. Very recent MOT, service due though, brakes need an
overhaul at some point (slight juddering when braking hard on
trackdays, not noticeable otherwise), slightly iffy tyres (a Macadam
rear FFS) with unknown wear, and not sure about C&S and other
    consumables.

Value? As he's my brother, we need to come to a sensible price that
    we're both happy with.

You won't get too much comfort out of a Y-onwards model GSXR750 (no idea on
earlier ones, though, but rumour has it they're the same-ish torture
    wise..).

Why not go for a ZX7R instead? Bigger and comfier than the GSXR but not much
slower (a fair bit heavier tho...) and probably less likely to have been
abused as long as it's not an ex Team ukrm one..

And bollocks to those who say go for a thou' - litre class bikes are for
girls or people who can't get all the performance out of a smaller bike.[1]

    [1] ex GSXR750Y, now Daytona 955i... :)

Whose scale are you using? NU group 17 for 1000, 16 for 750 and 13/14 for
    600...

A 7R is just an grown up ZXR4 really (and I speak as someone who's
    thrashed the tits off both.)

I have a faint recollection of offering you (Mr Fantastic, not Davy)
a go on mine in Sedan, but I was very, very drunk. Location
notwithstanding, if you're in the locality you're still more than
    welcome to HAGM.

You may say now that you're loathe to sell it, but when you get
something bigger you'll wonder why you didn't do it aaaaaaages ago.
