    R&G bar ends. YKIMS.

What is it with Suzuki owners that makes them put bright blue bar ends
on their bikes (mind had the same when I got it).

God knows. First job will be to fit a proper tail tidy to replace the
sawn-off monstrosity currently in effect. Hamfisted fuckwittery.

8100 was the figure quietly suggested.

A chap recommended by the CBXOC in Surrey will do a full rebuild for
around £1200 - including a repaint of the motor.
    It sounds horribly familiar.

Trouble is, after years of watercooled stuff, and especially the Wing,
I'm not sure if I remember what an old air cooled bike *should* sound
    like.

The horrendous rattle at present is coming from the alternator
    clutch.[1]

This will probably be solved with one of those German aftermarket
    conversions.

The rocker box gasket leaks a bit, and there's more than a hint of
weep from the base gasket. The former should be an easy fix, but the
    latter sounds horribly expensive.

When it's warm, it's much quieter, and that's probably good enough.
Out of balance carbs can make them noisy, let alone neglected valve
    clearances/camchain tensioners.

    [1] He said, hopefully.

  7. And let's not forget that it has two (count 'em, two) camchains.

And, obviously, almost four camshafts - what with those silly joint
    thingies in the middle.

    Troo enuf.
That's the same loony who does five cylinder KH250s and similar. He
bought a KH500 airbox off me on Ebay. The chap wot does CBXs also
fettles those montrosities for their owners.

  10. Oldham couplings, they're called.

    Presumably because they Oldham together.

That was the Z2300 chap, no?

I still think the single most amazing part of that machine was the fuel
    tank.

Just a standard Z1300 one. Stretched about eight inches. And it was
    *immaculate*.

  12. Oddly, the CX500 seemed to be built of everlasting pig-iron. Funny, but
I've seen a few out on the roads in the last few days, including a very
nice condition B model on the M25.

Unlike the Super Dream series - they didn't even seem to last into the
    1990s.

Strangely, I saw one near my hotel in Stoke on Trent last week.[1]

Don't know which model, other than it was a maggot - but it was ridden
by some old boy wearing what looked to be a (ISTR) Stadium plastic
helmet, wax jacket and Sam Browne belt. With the obligatory white
    Rickman top-box.

[1] The rooms overlook a cricket pitch and bowling green - said older
chap had been for an evening of bowling.

So what do you think of this SOB that I bought today.

Must be worth that much as parts.
More will be known when I collect it.

I am equally sure I could not. Not in a month of Sundays, which is why I
have such respect for those who can.
Given some of the shit that she puts up with? A mere bagatelle.

    I hope.

I'm kind of toying with the idea of building a model aircraft.

    A 1:1 scale one.

    Just toying, y'understand...

    Weston Super Mare.
The name has nothing to do with Wales, an ancient variant of the Dutch.

    Not heard of those before.
