H&S Looney - God Give Me Strength

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Mar 5, 2007.

  1. She seems to think there's a statutory duty for us to have a disaster
recovery scheme, and some lunatic in one of Yank offices has drawn up
this *unbelievable* form we're supposed to send to all our "suppliers".

When I queried it, she said that it had been decided (by whom?) to
harmonise our requirements to the most stringent legislation. Which is
    American.

    Sounds like bollocks....?

You're only required to comply with English law, subject of course to
the whim of our European "masters".

  3. I know, I know. And I don't think it's even a UK legal requirement.

Wouldn't it be easier, cheaper and far less stressful just to have her

It is good practice to have a disaster recovery scheme - especially in
your trade. I'm not aware that there is any statutory provision in the
UK that applies *generally* - there may be industry specific provision
    where there are critical activities.

We have one at work which is reviewed every few months so contact
details etc are all up to date. If our office burns down then we have a
clear plan as to what we do next. In case anyone thinks "this can't
happen" it did to our colleagues when Telstar House (beside Paddington
Station) went up in flames a few years back. We learnt a lot after that
    particular experience.

Disaster recovery team for TOG's place of work:

    1) Get IT bod to fail over to dusty backup server
    2) Go home with laptop
    3) Do job.

It's not like he runs a railway or something.

You've forgotten the most important component.

    Disaster recovery plan for TOG:

1 - Clean up spilled claret.
    2 - Pour replacement claret.
3 - Drink extra claret, to deal with the trauma of the initial spillage.

Sounds like you might be part of an American owned company, and
therefore will have to comply with the hoop-jumping-nonsense that is
    Sarbanes-Oxley.

Like we do at work... :-/
