How do I get to be a supplier?

Heh. When the BT (IIRC) workmen drilled into a gas main in Central MK
and shut our offices for the afternoon because they were likely to
explode our development manager retired the team to the most local
boozer that wasn't shut and ordered a round including a lovely[1]
bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pap for himself. By the time the project
manager found out where we were we had all become lightly sozzled.

PM: "What are you doing in here ?"
DM: "I was just about to order another round."
    PM: "I don't really think that's appropriate.."
DM: "No, good point, you're here now - I'll have another bottle of
    this please."

    PM: "!" <semi-flounce>

Made us laugh, didn't buy us a round though - tight fucker.

    Bad form and all that.

[1] He said it was lovely, and the other management type agreed. I'm
more of a beer man personally. The beer was fine too.

I fucking was, too. THe mindset, you know - it assimilated me. I had
    to stagger away from the keyboard and sit in front of the box instead;
and watch a few episodes of MASH - the first series. That helped a
    lot.
Fucking hell. Knob in the lug time again, is it?

Don't have to be American owned; just listed on the NYSE is enough to
    expose your management to Sarbanes-Oxley.

"Blackberry passwords need to contain one capital letter and one number
    and be changed monthly."

    "Why?"

    "Sarbanes-Oxley"

    *sigh*

Even if it was, it wouldn't be a legal requirement. H&S and QUality are two
totally different beasts (even though they sometimes appear to be the last
    refuge of the totally incompetent!).

Should try the password mask for the IBM VPN then. It's that hard to
please that you end up with it written on a post-it note.

I know several people who've defaulted to name/month/year as their
passwords, eg Johnfeb07. Not me, though, oh no. I use an entirely
    different system.

AT&T is incredibly flaky. However we might be losing our W3 access
    anyway so dunno.

25 years ago, I was involved in the H&S shite, but in an accident prevention
way. None of this having to do a risk assessment to change a fucking mouse,
or telling folk not to store petrol under their work desks but REAL accident
prevention like "Don't drive this machine with the tipper in the "UP"
position and "Don't walk under raised forks/Don't carry people on the forks
of a forklift truck". Important stuff y'know, stuff that no-one would *ever*
think was dodgy but seeing a sign telling them of the dangers would show
them they were and bring these practises to a stop.

I came to the conclusion it was all a fucking big con and the only people to
benefit would be the insurance companies who had an easy "out" to any claim
for compo if an accident occured because no-one could follow *all* the new
rules and actually do a days work.

I knew then that things were only going to go from bad to worse, so I
    bailed.

That's gone in my favourites. Cheers, a few good chuckles there,
particularly "Hint: one of them is wearing a big hat". Excellent.
