Shuddupp or I'll killfile ya! I'm not an intolerant control freak, I
just killfile anyone who says stuff I don't want to hear. It's a lot
less expensive than paying for years of counselling only to walk out
on my counsellor because she keeps saying things I don't want to hear.
But I'm not an intolerant control freak, Smee, really, I'm not. No,
Smee, I'm serious. I'm not a control freak. I AM NOT A FRIGGIN
CONTROL FREAK, SMEE !!! NOW SHUT THE FUGGUP, SMEE, OR I'LL KILLFILE
YA !!!! LAST WARNING, SMEE !!! I'M SERIOUS, SMEE !!!

I find valerian tea calms me quite well. But it's an acquired taste,
    I admit.

Not sure why, but one of my cats is crazy about valerian tea. He yowls in a
very disturbing way, rolls around the floor waving his paws in the air,
tries to stick his head in the teapot... very entertaining. Me, I just find
it helps me sleep occasionally (although I prefer hops tea - while it
contains valerian, it doesn't have the "sweaty sock" smell of pure Valerian
    tea)

Apparently some people (and cats?) experience valerian as a stimulant.
I only take it when I need it. Like tonight. Can't sleep, very jumpy,
slightest noise and I'm wide awake, mega alert, can hear the clock in
the kitchen ticking from the bedroom at the end of the hall (and its a
very quite clock). Valerian eventually settles me down again after
about an hour and then I can go back to bed. Before valerain, I'd be
up till about 5am every other night.

Quelle surprise, I read the other day that they used to give it to WWI
soldiers suffering from shell shock. Well there you go, eh.

I do the 2am and 3.30 wake-up just about every night, but if I've had hops
tea before bed, I can actually go back to sleep. Otherwise, that's it.
Occasionally manage to doze off again just before the alarm goes off at 5,
and that's even worse than being awake half the night. Drives me crazy.

The tea eventually stops being effective if you take it for too long, so I
only take it now and then when I get too sleep deprived. Gives me one or two
decent nights, then it starts over again. Grrr.

  15. From Wikipedia:

" An unusual feature of valerian is that the essential oil of valerian
root is a cat attractant similar to catnip. The active compound in
valerian for this is actinidine. ..... Anecdotes state that valerian is
also attractive to rats, so much so that it had been used to bait traps.
Some versions of the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin have him using
valerian, as well as his pipes, to attract the rats. This might be
related to the change of aversion into attraction to cat urine in rats
infected with the parasite Toxoplasma gondii.

Valerian's effect on cats is featured as a clue in two works by Agatha
    Christie. "

So you make sure you drink it all down, otherwise you'll get rats :)

On another note (while we're in a conversational mood), watched
Comapss last night. It was about some Amish people who were being
excommunicated for daring to question and challenge the elders.

Made me think of this place and the whole killfile thing.

Is the urge to ostracise (or to silence, or to make disappear) those
who dare to be critical, or nonconformist, or different, hardwired
into the Neanderthal throwbacks around here? Is it a tribalism meme
in the reptilian brain of some of the inmates here? Is it some
backward, paranoid "us and them" mentality?

I mean, take bikie gang thing for instance. Totalitarian heirarchal
leadership structure enforcing repressive, misogynistic, racist
"laws", disgergarding the laws of the society in which they live
    whilst iron-fistedly enforcing their own?

What kind of lunatics are these? And to think they are allowed to get
    bike licenses! Sheesh!!!
