I don't tell people that any more because they don't believe it. Though it
    is true enough.

I gave you a straight answer to a straight question. So no need to go
    getting crazy on my arse.

I may be less than sensitive about such matters, but one thing I've
never really understood is why mass graves are seen as acceptable, but
building an enormous funeral pyre and burning a heap of corpses at the
    same time, isn't.

I'd prefer to be burnt than later dug up by foxes.

So that some bunch of sick fuckers can come along later and dig you up? as
happened with many a mass war grave.

  5. I tried telling an anti nuclear, pro coal power station guy that in my
old pub in Kent. He just fell about laughing in disbelief.

He went very quiet when I brought in some data of the net the next
    night.

I've never met a Pro Coal power advocate. Thank ged.

  8. Kent had lots of coal mines producing high grade 'Steam Coal'.

    His was a mining family.

His point was we are sitting on thousands of tons of the stuff why not
    use it.

No point worrying about it now as hell appears to have frozen over.

The trouble with nuclear power plants is that you're relying on
skilled engineers operating the plant and in a lot of cases they're
running minutes away from a disaster.

I love nuclear power but I wouldn't live within 50 miles of it unless
    I really had no choice.

Yeah, and any fool can doctor the figures to make them read what they
    want.

It's not background radiation that worries me, it's the full on 'let's
blow the top off the reactor' type of incident that'll leave a bastard
great big desert behind that I don't fancy.

We've been close over here, very fucking close, and it's not something
    to be complacent about.

Give me a nice big coal fired station in the vicinity and I'll look on
it as a good earner for the future, give me a nice big nuke and I'll
have the for sale signs up as quick as a flash then take the money
    from a distance.

  14. When I lived in Kent there was a very strong rumour about a near
'cats arse trafy' that happened at Dungeness.

SWK will be along in a moment.

Heh well yes we know you are a Coal Slut. And Mick has a somewhat decent
    science career behind him AFAIK...

No accounting for the irrational nature of the great British public.

I refer Sir to my comments about safe design.

It's perfectly feasible to build a reactor which relies on active controls
to avoid carpet bombing a large part of England. It's also feasible to
build one that does it passively.

But as you and I know, it isn't possible (now) for any British company to
    design and build a nuke.

It's a shame that the people operating nuclear power stations don't
have a decent science career between them...

I think you'll find that Rolls Royce design (well, sort of design) and
build very good nukes but they don't go in anyones back yard.

Where do I collect my money for winning that one?

Well, yes, actually. As the ICRC points out in the page I linked earlier,
it's important to be able to identify the dead once the emergency phase
is over. If you've meanwhile lost or destroyed the bodies that may cause
long term psychological and legal problems for the people who survived.
