Halvarssons Safety Jacket

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Oct 20, 2005.

  1. Well, Varnsverry's been raving about it for long enough... ;^)

Popped into GLF today, and saw the beast in the flesh.

Very nice. Very, very nice. The jacket consists of a liner and separate
outer. You get two outers (a winter one and a summer one). The whole
    thing oozes "quality".

Not cheap (£499), but you're effectively getting two jackets, and the
combination of safety[1] and year-round comfort.

I'll have one when the current jacket wears out.

Varnsverry has beat you to it. Although whether possession for
evaluation purposes counts as actual owning in ukrm speak has, I think,
    yet to be discussed.

  6. Now you know why.
I phone Graham a short time ago to tell him the news was on ukrm. I
think I heard his jaw hit the counter: "What, already? They only came
    in two hours ago." :)
A lot of effort went into getting the build quality right. ;-)
Three jackets in one with the full mesh outer (which, if Jofama take my
advice, should be available in good time for next summer).

    LOL! News travels fast, eh?
Seriously, I'd say it was worth it. It's got a genuine feel of
    "rightness" about it. Very impressive.

  8. Over the years, so many textile garments have been touted as signalling
"the end for leathers", based on claims that they offer the same crash
protection with the added benfits of lighter weight and
weatherproofing. From the Fackelmann Safedress suit in the late 1970s
through Cordura to Keprotec, none of the claims matched up to the
    reality.

Now there is are several true *alternatives* to leather clothing: equal
protection plus all-weather functionality. BKS' textile jacket, the
Scott Leathers "New Road" and "Road Airflow" jackets plus the
    Halvarssons Safety suit.

Could be an interesting NEC show next week...

  13. According to RiDE: about GBP 398. Same set-up as the jacket: one
waterproof/windproof/breathable outer layer plus one set in part-mesh.
Hopefully the full mesh versions will join the civilian range next
year. At the moment they are police issue only.
Try: www.jofama.se and go to the textile garments page. If you are not
familiar with the Swedish language, they have thoughfully provided an
    English translation. :)

  14. Well, RiDE said £900-ish for the whole suit, so if the jacket is £498
then that suggests the trousers must be be £398.

Heh I wasn't asking you of course. The Jofama website isn't exactly
    wunderful, I checked.

So let's get this right, the mesh inner, the protective bit, goes
inside one of the shells. The mesh is never worn on it's own? Does it
    incorporate armour.

  19. The "protective bit" (the terry-knit Safety jacket) contains the
shoulder and elbow protectors, and has a pocket for a back protector.
The mesh or solid outers go on over the top of this. They are more
aethetically pleasing, feature all the pockets, etc, and provide the
    "climate control".
