I would like to believe that the airlines don't really want a cabin full
of bored frustrated passengers, so I'm sure they hope it's temporary also,
like the DfT statement claims: "We hope that these measures, which are
being kept under review by the government, will need to be in place for a
    limited period only."

"Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger." - that makes
flights on AA even more unbearable for certain members of this 'ere
    parish.

Aren't they always? For our own protection, too, I imagine.

I don't know what Cab's upset about - it's only the government doing
something to look after thosre incapable of looking after themselves.

Well, if they're going to drag 18 "suspects" from their homes in the
middle of the night, they're not likely to be members of the Chief
    Inspector's golf club, are they?

Are they bollocks. You're lucky if you can get a copy of the
Internation Herald Tribune on most yrpn flights, or the Express or
Mail if it's BA. Relying on them supplying anything you'd actually
want to read would be a foolish waste of time.

As I said elsewhere , thats either because they knew of this plot and plan
    to arrest the
suspects and wanted to get the public considering these things in advance ,
or because they wanted to restrict everyone's freedom for their own sinister
plot and have since made up the bit about suspects being arrested to justify
    it.....

Depends on how much of a conspiracy theorist you are

  12. Fuel-air bomb disguised as a bottle of whishky. Even if it just started
a decent fire, it might bring the plane down.

    one - the timing stinks.

Well, we'll see, won't we? If the suspects are swiftly charged and
brought before an open court so that the evidence of this plot can be
fairly assessed, then I'll be happy.

If they disappear into Belmarsh never to be seen again, are shipped off
to the USA on some pretext or other, or are released without charge then
    I'll be unsurprised.

Wasn't TOG supposed to be flying out on his wonderful
trip pretty soon? I bet that'll please him - no chance of
sneaking his illicit booze on board and no wallet to
buy any of their on-board stuff when he does get on!
No book or paper to read, and sitting next to the
crying baby who stinks because they couldn't change
    it's nappy...

The bigger test I think is how long the restrictions are in place.

If in a couple of days you can take your bags on a plane as before then this
would seem to have been a response to a specific threat. If it's this time
next year and you are still banned from carrying a newspaper........

If you read the DfT statement, you'll see that a wallet (with money and
c/cards), as well as baby stuff like nappies, are still permitted items.
