And on low end of the market shitters too. Coil packs are probably the
single worst idea anyone ever came up with.

Yep, some of these at least were Siemens.
Ah, that is a useful way of identifying its actual age: it was
    registered in 2001.

Good point well made. Too much time spent in Tiger groups I s'pose. T4s
were the first generation Tigs, 885cc with carbs. 1999 was the first
year of the 2nd generation (EFi, T7).

First batch (1999-2000) got the shorter frame without the braces between
porkchops and the lower back of the crankase.
On some of them, there is a trapezoidal plate under the main frame to
link it with the top of the clutch housing.
It improves the rigidity of the frame/engine/gearbox and prevents cracks
in the gearbox case near the point where it attach to the frame.

In 2001 they switch to the new frames with the lower brace, and removed
    the top plate.

In 2000 and 2001, they used the leftover old frames without the braces
but remove the top plate, and old engine casses that cannot receive said
braces with new frames (without top plate) : all these combinations lacks
rigidity and the gearbox case usually crack and oil seep at the back...
    avoid if possible.

1999/2000/2001 were recalled by Guzzi under warranty for important
modification: rods and rod screws (prone to break in case of sustained
high revs...), and gearbox parts. You should verify at a Guzzi official
dealer if your bike is concerned (frame number) and if it was done.

You'll find a lot of info (workshop and user manuals, part lists, wiring
diagrams, factory videos, etc) on www.guzzitek.org.

    Heh, wonderful and highly descriptive.
    [snip loads of useful stuff]

Thanks for all that. I still need to check for the mods but it's one
of the later 2001 one by the look of it, with the lower bracing bars.

There seem to be a lot of French sites for these: in fact the first
wiring diagram I found online was French. Were they particularly
    popular over there?
    Smart. What's the exhaust?

It's a gathering of tubes to let hot gas escape at the back of a bike, but
    that's another story.

For Guzzi value of very popular, yes. :)

A lot of owners see the V11 as "the last classical Guzzi".
AFAIAC the real classical are the Tonti frame Guzzi, others will put the
limit at the horizontal single 500.
    To each his own.
It is a early Quat-D, without cat and "not for road use".
They no longer sell that model, it is a bit throaty above 6000 rpm.
