I hope you all get nice and toasted celebrating 221 years of
oppression, dislocation and dispossession of the original inhabitants
of this increasingly sunburnt land, and more recently 10 years of the
racist rabble rousing regime of John “Eva Braun”* Howard and his nasty
neo-con refugee baby drowners- I know I did (last night at any
rate)...........at least we have Rudd now.

Of course reactionry rednecks are outraged by the valid protests
performed by indignant indiginies, and how dare these silly old
bastards criticise people who have been patronised and deprived of
their rightful resources by disinterested white bureaucrats- after
all, they haven’t had to live in sub-standard housing which they
themselves have reduced to hovel status while continually receiving
welfare while never actually bothering to even seek gainful
employment, all they’ve done is murder a few Asians who were trying to
liberate their own hemisphere from the yoke of European colonial rule.

The whole name “Australia” day is a joke itself- seeing as we are
nothing more than the lick-spittle grovelling servants of hegemonic US
world domination- why not be truthful for once and rename it
“Subservience Day”, and allow occupying American killbots free access
to our homes, refrigerators and sexual partners.

Typical behaviour of someone who has had too many reds the night before,
    clearly drunken behaviour,
First, your 221 years of oppression, dislocation and dispossession

All through the history of this world, there has been instances of
possession of lands by people other than the "original" inhabitants
It has been that way and will be that for years to come
First it was acquisiton by power, then it became acquisition by trade which
by todays standards, would be called stealth.

I can remember being taught in school about John Batman trading the site for
Melbourne for a couple of axes and blankets, shirts and other stuff
This was the deal in those days

    Nowadays
almost everyone, including yourself, take today's values and challenge the
validity of that treaty, by saying that the local inhabitants were cheated
    out of their lands.
The Wurundjeri elders who made the deal thought it was good at the time

If you have ever owned property. sold it and years later seen the current
price of that property, have you not desired to have that property back now
so you can get more out of it?
Of course you have and so have most others

    *********************************************************

The only reason they live in "sub-standard housing" is because that is the
way they have chosen to live
They are not concerned with having a house which will give them shelter
They totally expect housing , clothing, money for grog and cigarettes, food
etc. to be given to them by your " disinterested white bureaucrats "
as stated by you and experienced by everybody
Okay, where and when has this happened?

If it wasn't for the Americans, you and everyone in Brisbane, would be
living in a mosquito infected swampland
which is what it was before the Americans creating a rest a recreational
area during WW2 down the coast a little
Remember that little place, with just a store and a few fishermans shacks?
Well, you probably wouldn't, probably because you are only a snotty-nosed
little brat and have no knowledge of history

  6. Ethics Gerry, have really got nothing to do with business if you want to
    make a profit
You know that as well as anyone

Are you saying that the Wurundjeri were stupid and didn't know what they
    were doing ??

Racist is a harsh word to use, corrupt would keep it correct.

Not as bullshit argument at all Gerry
    Plain fact
    You hear all the time
"Oh, wish I had kept that property, I sold it for $25,000 and now it is
    worth $750,000
Batman made the treaty with the local inhabitants and it was agreed at the
time that what he exchanged, was a fair deal
otherwise, there would not have been any exchange of properties

  8. Never said that Gerry, I said it happened years ago according to the deal of
    the day
I am not saying that it is okay to continue in that manner
Its time to get over it
    it happened
    it was a done deal
whether it be a shonky deal or not

    I already replied to this

And I agree with you there
It's called doing business to make a profit

A car or bike salesman will tell you almost anything to get you to part with
your money in exchange for a pile of tin and plastic
And you do, because this is the way business works

Your style of business would be a barter system,
    Which I fully agree with,
where you exchange goods or services for other goods or services of equal
    value
But, even with this apparently fair system, there will always be someone who
tries to get more than their value

I am no pommie bastard thank you very much
I was born here as were my ancestors

Land at the time, in Australia, was virtually worthless to a pommie or any
other european as they did not know how to manage it
also, it was so far from their homeland, they couldn't go down the shop to
pick up a bottle of milk whenever they liked
So, to them, the land was worth a few blankets, axes, knives, shirts etc.

The same as now, with land in the suburbs of Brisbane, Sydney Melbourne or
any other Capital or Provincial city costs a lot, whereas, if you go out a
few miles from a provincial city, the land is a quarter of the price of city
    land

maybe because I can't understand what you are saying is not my inherent
    racism, but your incoherent ramblings

  13. I can remember not that long ago and you should also, the workers on
Christmas were paid in plastic money which could only be spent on the island
The workers were happy with that arrangement for almost 100 years, till the
Australian Government stuck their nose in around 1980 and told the company
they had to pay award wages according to Australian standards
Now, how the **** can yopu have Australian standards on a tropical island?

    same thing with Melbourne land
money paid for what the land was worth

  14. Who is to say Gerry, that the aboriginals who "TRADED" land for axes, shirts
and whatever to John Batman, did not "invade" the land before?
where did they come from in the first place?
They could have invaded this country a 1000 years before and only been here
    for that long
and don't go saying they have been here for 40,000 years
There is no proof the current tribes of aboriginals have been settled here
for that long because they do not have a written language or any written
    history.
True, there is a "dreamtime" and stories have been passed down from father
    to son for generations
But, is the story being told today, exactly the same as what was told 1000
    years ago?
I will bet that it is not
as when you hear a story told to you by your father, then you relate it to
your son 20 years down the track
the exact words will not be the same, there may be only one word changed,
but passed down from generation to generation, one word for each generation,
could change the whole meaning of the story.

Aside from that, the trade made 165 years ago was agreed to by the tribes of
the day and that is what this whole discussion was about

The value of a tract of land at the bottom of a continent far, far away
from anywhere else in the world? Bugger-all, I'd think.

It's only valuable now because of its subsequent development, which
would not have been carried out by the original inhabitants.

  16. There are a lot of people who do not comprehend what is written because of
an agenda they carry in their head
even though it may be true
But, I guess, that is the beauty of a discussion, everyone has different
    ideas
    just that Gerry's are wrong.

When I make my will, it will be a dead giveaway

Indeed. I recall that Professor Manning Clark,in his "History of
Australia" suggesting that before the whites, there were at least three
waves of "invaders", each displacing the previous.

Nice bit of conscience balm there though. We are not really sure who
previous invaders were, let alone whether they were good guys or baby
eating cannibals. Either way I don't see this as justification for
ripping someone off because he or she has a different set of living
    standards.
Of course, there is an element that will see this as entirely
justifiable. Red necked bogans do, as do a lot of people who do not
    see themselves in this light.
So there, as they say, ya go.

  20. Don'e really think that was concience balm George
What he said is fact and what you say is fact, we don't know whether they
    were peaceful or "baby eaters"
I may even go as far as saying they were cannibals, given there was not that
much variety of food and given also the customs of the people.
If you are brought up eating babies. then you keep eating them, unless there
is some other delicacy come out of the dirt.
I also don't think anyone is claiming justification for ripping others off.
It is a natural habit of anyone to trade with others and also to try to gain
a bit more than what they have put into it.

Look at any trade deal you like
Someone buys a house, cleans it up, then sells it for a huge profit, because
they see there is a shortage of housing so they take advantage.
Another person buys a car, or has had it for years and sees the opportunity
to make heaps of dollars because some collector wants it.
A tradie digs ditches for you, which might only take 3 days to do, but he
will charge you heaps because of the backbreaking work which you are too
lazy to do, or are incapable of doing.

Batman traded goods to the natives of the area so that farmers could farm
the land, as it was not being used as such and never would be by nomadic
    tribes,
the natives saw the opportunity to get goods from trading useless land that
    did nothing for them.
They didn't get ripped off, maybe they thought they were getting the better
    of the deal.

If you jump off a Paris bridge, you are in Seine.
