I've said it before. Just laugh openly at them.
It makes your typical road rager bust a blood vessel.
    Which is nice.

I'm sure they should but lurking on a Landy list seems to suggest
getting insurance for such youngsters on such vehicles isn't as cheap
as they imagined. In fact I think I read it was often impossible (as
in stupid quotes if at all).

We pay £1055 Comp on the Ka for daughter and some of her (male) mates
pay £2500+ TP on 1100 Fiestas.

We hope to get her on our 1300 Suzi jeep looking kit car someday as at
least it does 30 mpg. ;-)

If she wants the screen down, doors off experience my Enfield 8000
Electric Moke would do that and may even be insurable to her (being
    rated Group1 etc).

We also know she will never get more than 20 miles from home. ;-)

Not to you as I believe you know all to well about that sort of thing
<g>, no, it was just a reflection on a bike related activity that
daughter happened to see that day. If you want entertaining I suggest
    you read elsewhere! ;-)

True, but the SO Boxer does have the advantage of being very
comfortable, with decent luggage and a brilliant fairing.

All things which cost lots of money to get even on old Harleys.

But I guess you could say that about MZ's or REB's or even Land Rovers
but that doesn't stop them being used to good purpose by thousands of
    people?
    Indeed they don't. ;-)

But again you might buy a new 'utilitarian' BMW GS and find stuff
corroding like mad from day one.

[1] My Madras REB 350 did 5000 fault free miles, nothing dropped off
and it never leaked a drip of oil.

For you and me, not everyone.
    Apples and oranges my friend.
WTF would you want a fairing on a cruiser and the faux leather
panniers on her Virago (and would equally fit on a Hardly) cost much
much less than my RT top case and hold nearly as much as my touring
    cases.

    TOG's right, another planet! ;-)

So, you're comparing the touring version of the R100 with ...
.... the non-touring versions of the Harley. Well done.

Before you postulate that they're no good for touring compared to an
R100RT, maybe you should ride one of their tourers first?

Show me where you can get a reasonable 'Road King' or whatever they're
called for 2 and a bit grand.....

Wasn't me who brought the R into the debate.... I just don't 'get'
    cruisers.

Mind if I nick that and use when I next speak to my kids' new step-dad
    - he has some 1340cc American built cruiser style POS 'motorsickle'

    before.

And? You said that they are useless for long trips and I pointed out
that maybe you should try one before you spout uninformed male bovine
    excrement.

The fact that you're even more of a tightwad than me doesn't have
anything to do with their long distance capability.
    Well, you're entitled to that.

Cruisers never made sense to me until I rode a Valkyrie.

I wouldn't want to own one but it is a very competent motorcycle capable of
being hustled around bends at seemingly unfeasible speeds.

I had a hoot riding it around the Cotswolds.

    I haven't ridden a Cali, but I'm guessing I'd have a bit of a laugh on one
    of those, too.

I had a cruiser for about 5 years, put a lot of miles on it. There used to
    be a write-up on ukrm.net.

and there was Steve saying cruiser riders are in the closet.

    Point of order, Mr Speaker.

That bike was fully aerobatic. I'm not sure it really qualifies as a
    cruiser.
