He should have been shot for the rear suspension on the Herald and
    Spitfire..

Ok, I admit it, I like Renault 5s.

How did that happen? Did you back off in a corner?

let's just say he should have been shot for crimes against sensibility.

  8. Heh. Nothing so interesting. We restored a convertible - lovely, she was.
Advertised for sale in the Owners Club mag, and even before it hit the
streets, this Norwegian bloke shows up with a pile of readies. Having done
the deal, he asks how to get to Harwich, as he is driving the car back to
Norway. Apparently - this was in the mid 80s', I think - they were worth a
    fortune there.

  9. All classic vehicles are worth a fortune in Norway. No tax on them, see.

I've ridden a few bikes like that, as well.

Wot, road fund type tax, or what? We sold the thing for a couple of grand -
he reckoned it was worth about four or more in Norway.

  14. I'll have you know I loved that car. No synchromesh on first, but luckily I
learned to drive from someone wot taught proper driving.

Not any longer, unfortunately. Last year the government there came up
with a new tax band for classic vehicles. Not as bad as modern cars yet,
    though.

  17. There's some unbelievable level of car/bike tax in Norway, but old
vehicles are - were, up until last year, according to this other poster
    - exempt.

A mate sold his old 1972 Commando to a Norwegian, sight unseen, for some
ridiculous sum a few years ago. All the Norwegian wanted was for it to
be delivered to a shipper in Harwich.

My old feller had a Stag and the engine was superb, it was the overdrive
    gearbox that wasn't.

Mind you, he was very anal about servicing and doing oil/filter changes.

There's a very nice (looking) Herald for sale just around the corner from
me. The fool wants 1800 quid for it, but it's been sitting with the for sale
sign on it since the summer. I wonder why he's not got the message yet.

  20. I've no idea what the value is these days. Ours was a soft top in almost
councours condition, and sold for around 2K, iirc. We'd bought her for 500,
so we weren't unhappy with that.
