Well, the Jews have a bit of a name for whittling away at one's willy...

  2. One of the delights of living in a rural area is I haven't seen a
mormon or jehovah's witness or some scruffy bloke flogging shite
    cleaning materials in years.

Kuwait, I can't say... But most of the Saudi's are pretty poor, unless
they are affiliated in some way to the ruling family... Which is a
minority of the population... The Saudi's effectively have two
standing armies, one to watch the other... Makes you think...

I always chuckle at these kinda posts...

Go and live in the middle east for a year, it might just change your
appreciation of the various views and factions that prevail in the
    area...
It isn't as simple and black and white as most people seem to think...

Better yet, spend your time between living in the diplomatic comunity
and living in a Palestinian refugee camp, do it for a year and you
just might start to understand some of the complexities...

This isn't really the best forum for getting a handle on it...

  5. Nope. Or at least nowhere near to the extent that the US fundies do..
Millenialist? I know not of the 'Golden Era' that you speak of.
    Nope.

  6. Well - whatever makes you happy.
Oh - I appreciate the various views. I understand why the Arabs want
the Jews out of Israel. I understand why the Jews want to stay in
Israel - and I also understand the basis of *why* the religious right
in Israel is so fired up about it.
Ah - the old 'you can't understand unless you have lived it' nonsense.

  7. It was a throwaway example. The main point was that Israel is the only
    democracy in the Middle East.
I'm sure you are right. Since that wasn't the main point of my post I
was a little mystified which bit you were referring to..

  10. Heh, my best man's sister was converted, she married her mormom
missionary and disappeared off to utah. Since then AFAIK she's left
    him and is with another.

  11. There is a *big* difference between Literalism and a belief in Biblical
    Inspiration..
Ah - OK. Yes - I hold my hand up to that one.
I wasn't questioning that bit - it was the 'youse a fundamentalist' bit
    that I was disagreeing with.

  12. Well that's pretty much in line with the original teachings of the
original Mormon, Joseph Smith. Ideally she'd be lined up with a pile of
other wives for one of them but I guess taking turns wouldn't be frowned
    on.

Friends of mine are Mormons and they get the usual teenage and early 20s
Stateside preachers to come over and do their year of 'missionary' work.
,I've mete a few of themn at my mate's house.

It turns out the young yankie mormons like a bit of a different sort of
'missionary' too. It's their last stab at freedom before going home and
getting married, so they do a little bit of rebellion while they are
over here and away from the family and elders. It's rude not to help
    them out.
