How to be popular in the NHS. Our trust have sent out an email to all the
staff who have possibly been known to drive a Trust vehicle asking them to
fill in a mandate which they can send to DVLA so they can check our driving
licences as and when they like. So I reply saying I'm not happy giving
anyone this level of access to my details and what safeguards are in place
under the Data Protection Act. This being the NHS no-one had considered any
of these issues and my email goes all the way to board level and the Trust
    solicitor.

A good question. I'll haave to ask them. I've no problem with them
checking my licence per se, after all they have to ensure that drivers
are eligible to drive company vehicles. I'm just not sure I want to
give them carte blanche to poke around in what is private data.

Which is fair enough, just show it to the once per year in the office

Aparently that's not good enough. They say they are concerned about
the number of forgeries going around and they want to check more than
    once per year.

These sort of shenanigans could very easily end up in the national press,
    I'd have thought.

Anyway, it's pretty stupid, because they're checking the wrong thing. The
problem is not forgeries, it's genuine licences fraudulently obtained[1].
How are they going to check for that, eh?

Just keep pointing out your data protection worries, you are concerned
about the number of breaches going on.

Recently I was asked to fill in a load of personaly stuff at work, and do
acard transaction to verify my ID to a customer (a bank, which I own part
of now and is susceptible to pyramid fraudsters).

I refused on the grounds I was SC cleared.
I was told I could not go to site, I wasn't bothered I stuck to my guns.

It forced to some to review the process and ask the customer is SC
    clearence was Ok.

They had no problem with it, no one had ever bothered asking them.

Corporate manslaughter perhaps? Our firm's recently shat a brick about that
sort of thing due to people having a propensity to crashing their cars on
company's time, and are now requesting copies of driving licence, MOT and
    insurance...

Mind ewe, they're a good while behind the curve for most things so it
wouldn't suprise me if everyone did the same years ago.
