Heavy stuff

Some fool has asked for a price for sending the GSX600F engine to him.

So I got togged up in my thermals and quilted overalls this morning and
went out to the garage to try to balance a big awkward-shaped lump of
metal on our fancy electronic bathroom scales.

    62.5kg, or near enough.

Bunged the details into parcel2go to get a quote... hmmm, palletised
    deliveries aren't cheap, are they?

Anybody know someone with a van that might be going from Northumberland
to the West Midlands in the near future and wants to earn some extra cash?

Give him the weight and tell him to arrange his own collection/
    delivery.

.... and it appears that he's put a bid on, before I told him the
delivery price or to sort it out himself.

What's the betting that he'll want to withdraw his bid?

I must say I definitely wouldn't have said this:

"Due to the weight, we'd much rather that this item was collected in
person. However, if you're desperate, get in touch and we'll work out
    a price for delivery."

Stuff like that is "Buyer collects" in my book, because I've had the
hassle of trying to despatch heavy kit, and it's a monumental PITA.

I'm the same. it's 'Buyer collects' and that's it. No working out
shipping costs and fucking around. If they want it they'll sort
    transport themselves.

    *shrug*

First time I've listed stuff that's been that big.
If he's willing to pay what I'll charge him for acquiring a pallet,
securing it and getting it delivered, good luck to him.

I remember selling the old roof bars from my Saab, and they were won
by a Yank in North Carolina, dear God.

When I got a quote for shipping, it was something like 100 dollars on
    a £30 item.

His reply: "Well, you shouldn't advertise than you'll ship worldwide
    if it's so expensive...."

    NPB, neg, move on....

Well, exactly; if this guy couldn't be bothered to wait until I told him
how much shipping would be, that's his problem...

    No, really?

Does your grandmother know how to suck eggs?

I tried that first this morning: the poncy electronic bathroom scales
just read "Err1", which apparently means that the load wasn't stable.
Our dog's better trained than that.
180kg maximum apparently; I know the GSXF's a bit of a bus, but the
    engine's not *that* heavy.

    Hah. Hah.

I tried the speaking scales next; they said, "One at a time, please!".

I'll admit that it was my first thought, though.

Van? ffs, I've shagged heavier things (1.85 tall, mind). I even managed to
bungee strap 50 kg of beer to a GPZ500, and it worked.

Actually, it appears that I wasn't paying attention: the bidder was
someone who lives ~12 miles away, who's got himself a lump of GSX600F
    for 99p.

Now, what else can I flog him when he turns up...

If you're accusing me of living near Wolverhampton, I'll have to ask you
    to step outside, sir!
