I *love* Xmas. I love the buying pressies for people I like. I love the
time off work. I love the getting pressies. I love the eating and
drinking. I love the general feeling of bonhomie. I love the cheesy
songs on the radio. I love the pointing and laughing at the christians
trying to take it all terribly seriously. I love it all.

Ho-ho-ho!

 

The office here shuts down between Christmas and New Year. So I get a
nice two-week break.

I'm slightly irritated that there's the odd Friday after New Year that I
need to come in for. I suspect not much work will be done that day...

One of the things I like about spending the festive season[1] in France
is that everything doesn't shut down for two weeks. Of course they make
up for that with the long lunches the rest of the year, and I have the
luxury of enjoying it because I don't have to be working.

I find the relative lack of Xmas hype there very relaxing.

[1] I know Bear disapproves, but it is useful shorthand term for Xmas
and New Year, and reflects the preoccupation with feasts around the
winter solstice.

Same here - well apart from the two week bit. We use the standard Earth
week consisting of seven days, rather than the freaky fucked-up four
day week you appear to use.

Our place shuts down for the three days in between too, but as I have
holiday days to take, I get a whole two weeks off. Yay!

 

If it wasn't for the kids I really wouldn't bother with any of it.

 

Agreed - Christmas in France is much lower key, and all the more
enjoyable for it, in my view.

Hmm - the annaul "Christmas is shit - oh no it isn't" thread is a bit
later this year. Maybe it's cos of the credit crunch.
