Can anyone put me right about which flip front helmet is the best, Shoei or
Schubert? Only just back on the road with a trusty Fj12 but an old Kiwi
helmet. I know that they are both expensive pieces of kit and havent been
able to find any good comparison tables anywhere. Im looking for something
that is relatively quiet and like the idea of the flip front. (glasses
wearer at the moment). Anyone used one of these helmets?..............TIA
    Gordon.

FWIW "flip front" and "quiet" are not normally used in the same sentence

My old Just one plus was great till it basically wore out, then went down
the route of a caberg downtown, but knackered that in the bin in July.
After that, im back in the market for a flip front again, ie chin/face
protection so was thinking of either the J1 plus again, or possibly the
    Justissimo

Obviously I am very biased, but the Nitro F317-V I'm using is the
quietest helmet I've had in years. That's a flip front too.

May I suggest you try the New Nitro flip-front then.

In the Justissimo's defence, it does have a secondary tinted visor
fitted, the Nitro doesn't. That's where some of the extra cost goes on
the Caberg. I think the Justissimo is a polycarb shell though. The
Caberg J1 Plus retails at around 99.00ukp and is a polycarbonate
structure, the Nitro F317-V is a fibreglass shell at 89.99ukp. Try them
    all on, take your pick.

All are worth looking at. As DNC said earlier, you want the one that
fits, not the one that looks good or costs more.

I keep wondering if I should commute by bike sometime. With my Shoei
helmet, Belstaff gloves, Daytona boots and Sidi waterproofs - my
leathers (currently) are Akito, but they need replacing...

I've got the Schuberth, and it is as quiet as they claim [1].

I wear specs, hence the flip front.

The only reason I bought it in preference to the Shoei (I tried one of
their flip-fronts at the same time [2]) was that the Shoei had very
slight pressure points with *my* head, which goes back to DNCs reply above.

[1] Apart from a high-pitched farty-whistle noise from the vent handle
thingy on top above 90, fixed by closing it fully and then opening it
very *very* slightly so the vent is still closed but the closing thingy
is not. Everything else about it is so good [3] I didn't go back and
    complain.

[2] Yes, it was a really big Shoei so I could get it over the Shuberth

[3] Apart from it does not have a D ring so it is a bugger to lock to
    the bike.
