Sometime over the summer, I'm thinkin' about gettin' a
new helmet. Currently, I have a Shoei RF800, that looks
a lot like this one, only solid white:
    http://www.motorcyclestop.com/shoei_scepter_tc4.jpg

So, I was interested in any casual helmet comments that
anyone cared to offer, regarding what they're wearing,
    how well it's liked, etc....

I plan to stay with a full face design, but would like to
hear any experiences with the new flip up chin piece
    models.

    TIA, for your opinions.

I have a Nolan flip up and its the greatest helmet ever. Dont let any
of these other guys tell you any different. Check out the Nolan. Make
sure also that when you buy a flip up, that the lugs that keep the
front closed are METAL and not plastic. I offer this advise because
its well known that you like to jump off or fall off every now and
    then..lmaooooooo..sorry....couldnt resist that one.

Gary, I have always worn a hell-met, but never a full one, I'm sure I
    should.

Atleast I wear a 3/4 type. It has the leather ear coverage, that's
really for cold riding, but I leave 'm on, for the noise, and some xtra
    protection.

Do ya just think it is time for a tech up date or something?

Redshad reference is to the fact that I've been known to
fall off/over occasionally. Usually due to insufficient cau-
    tion.

No, it's not technology updates that I'm seeking. My curr-
ent lid is at least 7 years old. It has served me well, but it
just seems time for a change. Additionally, I think the hel-
met need changing periodically per manufacturer's order.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the Nolan's, with the metal lugs.

And, just for the record, none of my sudden motorcycle
    separations were voluntary jumps. <g>

I have the HJC flip up and it's ok. Haven't owned other full face
helmets so i don't really have a basis for comparison, but i would like
my next helmet to have better ventilation, with less wind noise. The HJC
isn't bad in those areas really, just not really good either. The only
real advantage i've found to a flip up is it's easier to put on and take
off without ripping out your earrings or having to take off your
glasses. i've been told that in case of an accident it would be easier
to get an oxygen mask on ya with the flip up, but then there's also the
possibility the chin bar will be too weak and imbed in your face or jack
    up the opening mechanisms.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that the less moving parts, holes
for ventilation, etc. that appear on a helmet, the better the
protection. But, that's just an opinion.

Speaking of HJC, they're just about all I ever see in the
shops these days. I suspect they have a high margin that
    encourages the retailer inventory.

I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy my Shoei(as much
as anyone can enjoy a helmet), but I'm just looking for the
small nuances that others find enjoyable/frustrating.

I guess another question I've always had - Is there any
reason that a $300 helmet is any better than a $150
helmet. Again, my opinion says there's a "cover charge"
at work here for the more prestigious names.

Last helmet comparison i saw showed some of the $60 Pep Boys type
helmets offered as much protection as some of the $300 helmets. I guess
it's like motorcycles, buy what you like, what fits good, and what feels
    good.

I've owned both the really cheap helmets and the not so cheap helmets.
I've never owned a Shoei or Arai, which seem to be the top ranked ones
these days....not to mention the Suomy.

One thing I REALLY look for is availability of parts. Visors and stuff
wear out, get hit with large rocks causing cracks and just don't work
well for every application. If you have a $400 helmet that you can't
get a replacement visor for until week after next because UPS is busy
and no one carries it, what good is the helmet when you want to ride
    today?

My two HJC helmets have the same type of visor (because they're the
same helmet models) and I can change them out on a whim. If I want a
smoke one or a clear one, I can go into most shops and buy one. This
has proved most valuable on a couple times when I was caught on a trip
with just the smoke visor and it was going to get dark before the ride
    would be over.

I personally don't like the flip up helmets. I don't have anything
against them with regards to my personally using them, they're just
not something I'm interested in. The one thing I *do* know about them
is I know they don't hold up to abuse too well. I know of one jerk
legged jack off who suffered $20,000 personally injury while wearing
one....from a 70+ year old man slapping the top of it with his hand!
Not only that, but the slap was so hard it caused another jack off
jerked legged fucker to have his motorcycle fall straight out from
under him. All he could say after getting his ragged motorcycle picked
up off him was "I SAW IT, I SAW IT!"

Now, you might be surprised to know, after all this, that this same
jack off who suffered all those injuries was *so* distressed about his
helmet failing him and his not having proper protection against the
70+ year old man's massive "bitch slap", but that jack off went and
hired a divorce lawyer to sue someone who had never done anything more
than laugh at his stupid ass for getting "bitch slapped" so hard as to
    wet his pants in fear.

At least that's what I recall the divorce lawyer's papers said which
    was delivered to me!

Do I hear a group full of amens? Yes children, I believe I do!

Yeah, I *did* forget that suggestion....MAKE SURE WHATEVER YOU PICK,
YOU LOOK DAMNED GOOD FOR THE LADIES!

Oh, and getting excited and dropping your motorcycle is just a
sideline issue....just ask the other resident motorcycle dropper of
    this group!

But, by the way he tells it, he "kicked his motorcycle over". I guess
in some haste to whoop up on some 70+ year old man with a mean $20,000
"bitch slap".....even though after he "kicked his motorcycle over", he
took off trying to run in the opposite direction. He wouldn't even
ride that banged up shithead motorcycle back up the road until a bunch
of others got in front....mostly the preacher dude. This was so the
preacher dude could pray some more to keep the pussies behind him
    safe, I guess.

I've never really looked at the HJC's, but not because I
can't find 'em. They're everywhere. I'll check them out
    also.

    Thanks.

Shoei Multitec - expensive - but the best helmet I have ever owned - I love
    mine.

Good fit, solid construction, venting for hot Texas summer is just OK but
the whole front of th helmet locks up and let's you get a 3/4 hlmet breeze
any time you want and at any speed without vibrating like opening the vior
will do. It will be a lot cooler than the one you have now - I have one of
    them also.

Thanks David. I'd never heard of this model, but I'm not
real helmet-centric. But, I will certainly include it in my
    review.

I understand. Actually, I like getting a new hell-met, if no other
reason to have a variety of colors. I've always enjoyed wearing a
    hellmet. I have three.

Do you think that dropping one, completely changes the tech-safety
concept of a helmet. I dont mean that after a drop, it gets a big crack
in it, like a windshield can, I mean'' merely it gets scuffed a
    bit??????????? what say you?

Even though it is, actually on topic, to an extent, and casually fits
right in on Gary's Thread topic about Helmets.

I do these same thangs all the time.
    (you know I do do)

Someone, needs to stur up, this group, while the main two renegade,

However; I'm not sure who the other ''Bike Dropper'' is on our great
