Helmet

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Steve Abdilla, Sep 14, 2003.

  1. Is it true that once you took the helmet home, you can't change it to a
different helmet, even to a smaller size?

As a learner, I had no idea on how to buy a helmet. So I went out and bought
a helmet (size large). Once I got home and looked at the manual and website,
I found out that the helmet was quiet big for my head. Do you think I can
change it to a smaller size, can the law help me here? I went to the store
where I bought the helmet and the guy said he could not help me - I bought
    it last weekend.

Please don't fire at me here.

Call the shop up and explain the situation, im sure they are reasonable.
you havent taken all the stickers off the helmet, like the plastic off the visor, have you?

Helmets are one use things, and fit to the head of the wearer. If the
lid has been used at all, then the shop won't take it back and can't.
It's fit for the purpose, you just didn't shop properly. Bet you didn't
even ask the shop what to do?

They can't resell that lid to anyone, so there's no way they will take
    it back.

Chalk it down to experience, and remember that when you are doing
something new, it's no shame to ask for help.

If it's really really too big you are stuffed. If it's only marginally
too big then wear a balaclava, and repeat as you cook "I must ask for
help when doing new things, I must ask for help when doing new things".

    The low-down on refunds

Let?s face it. The issue of refunds is confusing. "No refunds" signs
scream at you in some stores. Others refund your money no questions
asked. But how do you know when you?re entitled to return goods and
    get your money back?

  7. Like the young bloke who asked me and BT for advice in the helmet section
of a Fyshwick motorcycle shop. I guess we looked kind of experienced
seeing as I was in the chair and BT had is arm in a cast!

....and after giving him our collective knowledge of aus.moto answers
he probably thought we were professional helmet testers!

Grow your hair long, use an extra-body shampoo?

Have you been using the helmet on the bike? If so, I'd reckon it's your
    problem.

If you haven't, just tried it on in the shop with assistance from the staff
there, what's the difference between your situation and someone who puts a
helmet on hangs around wearing it in the shop for a couple of hours before
deciding that they don't like the colour?

If the staff have sold you something unsuitable for its purpose, despite
presumably knowing of the importance of correct fit, make a complaint to
    consumer affairs.

It could also be that you don't have a Shoei-shaped head. I can't wear
other brands, but perhaps there's one that would suit you better (what I'm
trying to say is that a measurement isn't the whole deal).

What style is it, what colour? I might be able to help.

sell it private and you should get a fair bit of your money back - keep the
    receipt to help

buy some 6mm foam, slide it under the foam in the top of the helmet.

Called into Peter Stevens last Saturday to check out the weekend mega sale.
Headed towards the helmet section hoping to replace my 8 yeard old AGV
Quaser. Tried the top-of-the-range discounted Suomy's, Shark's and an AGV (
can't remember the model ). Nothing seem to fit comfortable enough to
warrant handing over my cash. Wasnt quite right, one of them sat too high
on my head that it felt that my chin was exposed. The other didn't feel
right either, didnt hug much of my noggin.

During my decision making process, I was repeatedly reminded by the sales
clerk that I was looking at an 800 dollar helmet discounted to 450 and it;s
the type racers wear. ..hmmm..Said had it been autographed by the "Doc", I
    wouldn't hesitate.

A few bods down, overhead some bloke conversing with his mate over the phone
asking him what colour Suomy he prefers. He was going for the orange
composite, asked him if he wanted the same.
Least he could do is carry his mates head in his backpack.

    ==============

If you haven't much luck with the shop you bought it from, you could :

    1) Stick it on an auction site and hope for the best. Count your losses and
    put it down to experience.

    2) Tell the shop that you;re prepared to take a loss on an exchange or
threaten that you'll try and flog it outside their shop on a busy Saturday
    morning.

    3) Or you try wearing it with a Jewish baseball cap or a WW2 scull cap.
