helmets for pushbikes :-)

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by isaac_the_blind, Apr 7, 2006.

  1. Heard an interesting item on ABC radio re compulsory helmets for
pushbikes. The statistics show a reduction for head injuries since the
compulsion to wear helmets BUT it is alleged that this is because the
number of cyclists has actually declined since the introduction of the
law. Anyone else know of this ?

  3. No need 2 go to into so much detail. A brief answer would have been OK.

I heard on the ABC a week or two ago, that pushbike sales are the highest
    they've ever been.
    Who's telling fibs?

I reckon car drivers should wear helmets. Seriously...Cars should also be
stripped of stereos and glass, have mobile phone jamming devices fitted and
    no GPS allowed.

  13. I had no idea how widespread GPS use had become until a friend of mine
last week admitted that she used a GPS to drive 2 blocks in Hobart.
Admittedly she is unfamiliar with Hobart and I've been in the car when
she is driving and she has no sense of direction at all. But two
    blocks?

We were then talking about boats and light aircraft and I explained
that I did my flying training before GPSs were around (****,
calculators were too new and not allowed) and she found this hard to
    believe. Kids these days.

I've started calling her Crunchie, because she is blonde on the inside

Except people with nasty injuries who ARE wearing a helmet tend to survive
and cost the taxpayer more than helmetless people who just quietly die.

Ok.I'll simplify. The number of bike sales last year has no connection
with the statement that after the introduction of bike helmet laws
people rode less often and therefore had less accidents.

We should sent Corks around the hospitals. "Why tie up that bed, you
selfish prick! Come out of that coma with your hands up!"
