Help please

Someone from the flightsim newsgroup, in which I post as Walt_M, is
trying to do my head in by cross-posting stuff I posted over there
into this newsgroup and making it look like I posted them.

I have posted no messages here as Walt_M. They were all posted by a
troll.

What help do I need? Threefold:

[1] How is the troll managing to make all the header fields look the
same as mine? At least that what my untrained eye thinks. The only
exception is the date/time stamp. Mine says (GMT) +1000, his say
(GMT) +0100. My main suspect is a guy called MikeW (you may know him
as ShyBiker), because the date/time stamp on his messages also says
(GMT) +0100.

[2] Is there anyway to trace these messages to confirm who is
actually sending them?

[3] Is there any point in lodging a complaint, and if so, with whom?

ONE of Gerry's signature's, Walt_M is short for his normal signature
which is Walter Mitty.

The fictional character appeared in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
(1941), written by the American humorist and artist James Thurber
(1894-1961).

The story was popularised in 1947 when Danny Kaye took on the role in
the Hollywood film of the same name, also starring Boris Karloff and
Viriginia Mayo. Steven Spielberg is expected to remake the film with
Jim Carrey next year.

In Thurber's 2000-word story, which takes place over a single day, we
first meet the henpecked Mr Mitty as he is driving his wife to town
for a shopping trip, while dreaming that he is a Navy pilot flying
through the worst storms in 20 years.

The mundane events of the day are punctuated by a series of daydreams
in which Mitty also fantasises that he is a famous surgeon, notorious
murderer on trial for his life and a wartime general.

In the final daydream, he faces a firing squad alone without a
blindfold, enigmatically smoking a cigarette.

The character has become a subject of fascination since the story's
publication, even prompting an article in a British medical journal
suggesting "Walter Mitty Syndrome" might be a clinical condition that
manifested itself in compulsive fantasising

accused someone here ("CopterSix") of something he didn't do, then
advertised his problem in the FS group alerting everyone to the
activity here.

I give him credit for being consistent.

 

I still think it's you sock puppeting yourself to cause trouble. All
you'd have to do to change the time stamp is to use an anonymous proxy
server and you'd get the time stamp from that server's location. But
you know that already don't you?

Peter, since you post in both newsgroups, I ask you to at least stay
somewhere this side of misrepresenting the facts to the people in THIS
newsgroup about stuff that happened in the OTHER one.

It seriously undermines your aura of impartiality and makes the high
moral ground a bit smelly.

FOR THE RECORD _HERE_ I have on rare occasions changed my ID in the
other newsgroup, but never ACTUALLY impersonating anyone. And on the
very few occasions I did that, THERE WAS A GOOD REASON.

There were a few who had killfield me but continued to snipe about me.
I warned the group that if you killfile me and continue to snipe, then
I will change ID to get under your radar. i.e. If you want the luxury
of having a go at me, then at least don't try to hide behind a
killfile.

They were my "rules of engagement". Peter was well aware of this but
"forgot" to tell you.

For amusement, and because he's the puppet master, I once used the
name "DaIIas", but anyone checking the header fields would have
realised it was not him, and a close inspection would have revealed
that I had spelt "DaIIas" with two capital i's instead of small L's.
I even revealed my true ID to the addressee (unprompted) immediatley
after he replied to that message. Peter was well aware of all this,
but "forgot" to tell you.

On no other occasion did I even come close to impersonating another
poster, I just used very common first names like Peter, Mike, Doug,
etc, but always used an email address nothing like anyone one else's
Peter was well aware of this but "forgot" to tell you.

So. Peter, stop dleiberately misrepresenting the facts to the people
here. That's tantamout to lying. As is quoting out of context (a
speciality of two of the guys you've ridden-in to support.)
