Help with FM antenna for a Cardo Scala G4 bluetooth headset

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Jeremy Robinson, Mar 15, 2011.

  1. This is a fancy bluetooth headset I use to hear sat nav instructions from a
Rider 2.I bought it mainly for the FM radio which is, to be kind, really
    shit.

I tried to improve the reception by soldering a single wire onto the
speaker with the longer wire as I assumed this acts as the antenna. It
improves it a bit but I wonder if I am missing something. Anyone have any
clue if I need to do something more sophisticated than adding a wire? Do I
need to balance the impedance whatever that means?

  2. Probably not.

Is your helmet lined with bacofoil? This can make a difference if it
    isn't properly nuetronically decoupled.

  3. Not to my knowledge..which when it comes to antennas is not a lot. I even
made length of the wire similar to FM wavelength but is still shit.

No no no! You wear the kitchen foil on the outside of the helmet.
    Neutrino protection. innit.

  5. Assuming you hung it on the right wire, which it sounds like you did as it
made some improvement then shit seems to be a reasonable assessment of the
receivers capabilities but bear in mind it is not an FM radio. It is a
gizmo with added functionality and radio reception is dependant as much on
how close you are to the transmitter as how good your receiver may or may
    not be.

The reviews I read looking for a bit of technical info are mixed with none
    of them saying outstanding.

  6. And let the secret gummint agents know you are on to them? Foolish yoof.

Wear it on the inside, it is nearly as efficient if it is decoupled and
also as a bonus it acts as a dehimudifier on warm damp days and stops your
    perm falling out.
