    I am restoring my father's 1937 BSA M22

All the dash components are missing. There are four holes: two large
upper left and upper right, a smaller one center, and a smaller one
yet at the bottom. I know an ammeter goes in one hole and a black
light switch goes in another. Not sure what goes in the other holes.
I'm told there is a removable light. I was also told there was a
    mechanical oil pressure indicator.

Here's a link to some photos I've found.

Does anyone know what the brass center on/off item is?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Doug

Probably an engine kill switch. They were simple on/off switches, with
one terminal to earth, the other to the end cap of the magneto.

I believe that the original would have been a Lucas inspection lamp (they
thought of everything in those days!). Your photos show the DC40 bakelite
version on one bike. The other has the brass version (rare as hens teeth
and probably £80-£100 in good nick).

Here is a bakelite DC40. There are relatively cheap imitations on the
    market too.

Mr WUN should be able to turn a brass one out in no time. Left outside for a
week or two and it'd look ancient.

I could probably wire it with my eyes shut - I was not the OP.

Now go and boil your head.
