Sorry? SORRY? This won't fucking do at all :)
Plod are odd about inspecting reported ringers in my experience. We had a
bloke bring a Skyline to us for a part ex and after we gave it a going over
and noticed the VIN plate wasn't absolutely spot on, we told him we'd need
to check it out further. He wasn't even bothered when we said that Plod
would be involved. We got hold of Plod and two of them came down from the
Vehicle Crime Unit and "inspected" the car. In the meantime, we'd rung the
DVLA to find out a bit more about its history and it had two odd dates. One
was when it was manufactured in Japan and the other when it was registered
in the UK but it was registered over here with a different VIN. Obviously
it'd been "changed" as soon as it hit these shores.

The DVLA said they weren't in the slightest bit interested in what went on
before it was registered over here and as far as they were concerned it was
legit. Plod said that if the DVLA don't give a ****, neither do they and we
got a "certificate of authenticity" (or some such rubbish) saying that we
could sell it on if we took it in part ex.

We were also informed that we didn't need to mention *anything* to the
prospective buyer, but we gave it a miss anyway coz I could still see
    possible problems in the future.

No, but it could be misconstrued as that - the joys of 'a few words on
    a screen'. ;-)
    Indeed.
