The hume is north-east, the calder is north.

North-West is the Calder. West is the, uh, Western.

The western highway is sort of north west, but yeah :)
    This is from the westgate.

    South-East is the Princes.

    That's not a freeway... don't count ;-P
    Ditto :p
Or Frankston... much of a muchness really ;-)

I can see you have a map of the state, you're not holding it up the right way

Seymour is north of Melbourne, it's on the Hume.
Yes, it's known as the Geelong Freeway.
What about those 110kph sections of errrr... freeway ?

I've got an old map of Vic and they've changed some of the highway numbers
since then. Makes it really easy to get lost.

    East actually

    Maroondah goes
    The Eastern goes east.

    Monash goes south east
    Not at all confusing.

Even the people who live here don't know.

....and they put the names and direction-arrows on the outbound side of the
intersection. You don't get badly lost though, you just get furious, and
all the while you've got drivers of smoky, rusty shitboxes trying to punt
    you into the next life.

    Adelaide - downtown bumfucknowhere.

Actually, if you take the end-point as someone said earlier, the Hume and
the Princes both go in the same direction!

Seymour is just about a suburb of Melbourne!

Sydney is where the hume goes, and that's NE or NNE
I didn't say it wasn't, I said the Westgate was west.
Don't start right at the city, that's the same problem as Sydney... no
improvment, so it doesn't count as an example of why Melbourne's freeway
system is better (coz that part isn't :)

The Eastern goes East.. is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking
about... in Sydney they'd call it something like "The Alexander Downer
    boulevard" :)

Why thank you... and I thought no one had noticed :)

Do you reckon I'd have made an acceptible defence lawyer? *grin*
True... as far as it (they) go :)
Again True... and more logical and easy to follow than sydney (although
    less easy than Adelaide).
