Now I'm curious to discover which direction the Midland Hwy goes :)

From Mildura you can go in every direction imaginable on the Calder Hwy.

Sorry mate, I'm not from Sydney originally, I got here 15 years ago, so
I can remember the learning curve of trying to get around here, I've
also spent a fair bit of time in Melbourne and I'd argue that Melbourne
    is no easier to learn.
And Melbourne's is integrated ? Try getting from the airport to the
eastern suburbs if you don't know how the connection in the middle goes
(I still don't know how to do it without getting lost at least once)
Yeah but Briz Adelaid and Perth are so small that if you do laps long
enough you'll get there eventually !

Why ? Because is there no logic rhyme or reason in it's meanderings ? Or
because it keeps swinging so far to the right it goes around circles ?

Probably the latter... if you hold a map of melbourne with north to the
top the eastern goes straight towards the right side until it disapears
off the edge of the map...

I'm not from Melbourne either, I had to learn both. I found Melbourne
    _lots_ easier.
Pfftt... all the real people live in the Western and Northern suburbs *grin*

seriously though... you come down the tullamarine freeway from the
airport and turn left onto the ring road... you end up in the eastern
    suburbs... how hard is that?

I went there last month to Greensborough. If you want the south eastern
    suburbs it's a bit harder I admit.
    Or run into Johno...

Pshaw. No-one actually believes in Greensborough. It's one of
those made up names they put on maps when they don't know
    what's there.

Then again we used to have the "south Eastern Freeway" that went ..er..
South East. Now its the Monash....

No, the Princes ends up in Footscray (after a rather circuitour route.)

No, you just come down the Tulla and turn Right onto the ring road, then

The best thing I took away from Melbourne was this advice: "don't go north of
    the Yarra".

Nah, we have that Highway run through Perth and it goes North-South if you
started heading towards Geelong from Melbourne.

You did better than us. We built a nice new Medical Centre and called it
Perth Medical Centre. Then the Queen visited and we changed the name to
Queen Elizabeth the Second Memorial Medical Centre. To the locals it remains
the name of the Hospital in replaced, Charles Gardener Hospital, or just
Charlie's. If anyone in Perth says their going to visit their aunt in
Charlie's, everybody understands. How parochial is that?

'Memorial'? Please tell me she's not dead yet. I don't think I
    could handle Charlie being king.

GB, not that I'd really give a flying fire-truck either way
