Unforntumately not, but it's definitely memorial. Anyway Charlie would be
    Queen, wouldn't he?

I've really got to stop agreeing with your posts Paul!

Compare that with Sydney.. for example if you wanted to go from Homebush
to the Zoo for example :)

  8. Couldnt be easier.

Homebush is on Parramatta Rd, which is also the Gt Western Hwy. If you head
directly west and stay on the highway till you reach Dubbo, then turn south,
you'll get to Western Plains Zoo.

    Yeah! It's great, innit! :)

... and to get to that other zoo from Homebush, well, you hang a right
onto Parramatta Road, battle your way along that into the City where
Parramatta Road becomes Broadway. Left on Wattle St (but do make
sure that you get Wattle Street, and not Wattle Lane, Wattle Place
or Wattle Crescent - all also in the same suburb) down to make a
right at William Henry St and up the hill under the overpass and
over to the city, but make sure you end up in the right lane 'cos
you don't want to go to the city. And if you **** that up, then
take a left into Quay Street, then second left onto Ultimo Road then
right onto Darling Drive then right around the roundabout up past the
Chinese Gardens then left onto Harbour St. And if you **** that up,
then continue around Broadway onto George St and then turn left onto
Hay St immediately after the tram tracks. Scream through Chinatown
at a million miles an hour with the horn blaring (if you're lucky,
you'll collect someone's grandma who just waddled out into the
traffic and for bonus points four undergrad singaporean students
with iPods blaring in their ears) right past the Empty Container
Centre. If you **** that up, continue down George St and turn left
onto Bathurst St, down the hill, up onto the freeway and piss off
back to Homebush the long way 'cos there's no hope of getting to
the Zoo from there. If you haven't fucked all three of those up,
then you'll likely find yourself crossing the Harbour Bridge. So,
get in lane two and sit there for a bit. Note as you're passing
the Milsons Point exit that they still haven't replaced one of
the "WRONG WAY GO BACK" signs that I may or may not have misappro-
priated some ten years ago, but don't take that exit. Don't take
the North Sydney/Pacific Highway exit either. Take the next exit
to the left and then turn right onto Falcon St from the top of
the exit. Through the esses, Falcon St becomes Military Road.
Sit in the right lane. Be sure to go right when Military Road
goes right and Spit Road begins - stay on Military Road. Almost
immediately after entering the Mosman bit of Military Road at
any time of day or night, grind to an almost complete halt and
wonder why the **** the traffic is so clagged up at this time of
day. Crawl along, get to the other end and realise that there's
absolutely no reason for the traffic to be clagged, and that
it's suddenly completely clear. Straight through the roundabout
next to the pub, watch for coppers with LIDAR up the hill, potter
on down to the Zoo. Turn around and drive halfway back to
    Mosman to get parking.

    See, easy!

  12. Thats the problem when there's a harbour in the way isnt it.

Do you have a route planned from the other Homebush (yes there are two in
    NSW)

I've been through just about all of that... and I still can't follow it
    written down :) [1]

[1] Melb zoo directions (from about 66% of Melb)... get onto ringroad,
get onto calder freeway from the ringroad, down calder freeway to city,
    turn left to zoo... *grin*

I guess that was kinda my point! :)

Adelaide Zoo directions are even easier. "It's over that way, about four
    blocks. Parking at the door."

    GB, I like Adelaide.

Yah, you can take the rivercat into the city, and then another ferry to
the zoo. That is probably the least hassle way.

But that isn't driving, and this conversation was 'originally' about
'ease of driving around' and 'freeway systems contributions to said ease
of driving around' and the rivercat from homebush isn't a ferry you can
load the bike or car onto!

Umm G-S you do get that he was being ironic, don't you ?

Aside from the fact I wouldn't have thought either end of your
suggestion were typical departure or arrival points, you'd have to be
trying really hard to not succeed in getting from Homebush (i'll assume
you mean the olympic complex) to the zoo, there's actually about 4 turns
to make, all of which are multiply signed with several big green signs.

    The hard way

You either go from Homebush Bay drive (the only road you can get to from
    the complex)
1.to Parra Rd (south on H.B.Dr and turn left at the sign that says
Sydney as opposed to right towards Penrith) then you follow your nose
until you start seeing signs that say harbour bridge, you have about 10
options, so if you miss the first 5, don't stress there'll be another

    2. turn onto one of the bridge feeds, pick the big green sign saying
harbour bridge that you like the look of, there's plenty to choose from

    3. Take the Mosman Manly exit off the Cahill (aka the bridge) onto
    military rd

    4. make sure you take the RHS military rd fork to mosman when military
rd forks (strictly speaking this isn't a turn, you go straight ahead)

    Pull up at zoo.

Alternatively instead of that you can north on HB Dr to Victoria Rd
    and go the easy way

    1. right onto victoria rd, follow nose many Kms, stay in right lane the
whole way, this will take you over the Anzac Bridge and Harbour bridge
without having to make any decisions, just stay in your lane

    2. Take mosman exit as above, stay on military rd until you hit zoo,
stay in right hand lane and again you *have* to take the correct fork at
    Military/Spit Rd

    Pull up at zoo.

Now that wasn't so hard, was it ?

    JL
(of course the real difference between Melbourne and Sydney would be
that it would take 4 hours to travel 25km, whereas Melbournians would be
able to do it in a reasonable time)

Closer to south than south east actually...

and it depends upon the distance as to the direction :)
