    Hello!

I'm Xavier, a biker from Barcelona (in Catalunya, a nation in spain) and I'm
planning to migrate to Australia with my partner in a few months.

My bike is an Aprilia RSV mille but it would be too difficult (and
expensive) bring it to Australia, so I will probably sell it and try to buy
a new one there (mine is 3 years old).

I hope you have some nice roads to enjoy motorcycles, and I can see that
there is a lot of good motard people there!
How much can cost a motorcycle insurance in Australia? It's expensive? Can
you put several vehicles in the same policy?

We do not kow yet where are we going to move, but probably it would be near
Sydney or in Melbourne, it will depend on my job.
I work in computer networks, with routers, VPNs, VoIP (any collegue here
that could help me to find a job? my e-mail is "xoli @ sirt dot es" ;-)

Well, I hope we will soon meet and make some kms in your better roads, see
you and thanks in advance for your answers!

Is there anyone on this list who doesn't work in computer networks etc - apart
    from Postman Pat and me?

It all depends on the exchange rate but an RSV is about $20,000 AUD.
I expect that you'd find the insurance expensive $2000+ per year unless they accept (and you can prove) a good
    record of previous insurance.
Housing is very expensive in Sydney and Melbourne but there's IT all over Australia and plenty of other
    livable towns and cities.
Good luck with your shift Xavier. (Could you bring a few of those beautiful Spanish women over with you?)

I would too. I can't play pinball machines. And my computer has NO games on
    it at all.

Seeing as everybody seems to be too busy telling you they're not in IT..

-Sell over there, buy here. We're one of the cheapest places in the world to buy
motorbikes (according to several surveys done by one of our bike magazines
    here).

    - Insurance can be dear, get as much documentation from your existing insurance
company as you can - you get "no claim bonus" for not claiming insurance, given
that can be as much as 60% less than list price it's worth doing what you can to
try and convince them you're not a high risk

    - NSW QLD and Victoria have a very different view of speeding to Spain -
draconian is the best description. In NSW, 30K over the limit, instant loss of
    licence for a month, 45K -3 months

    - There's some excellent roads within reasonable distance of Sydney Brisbane and
    Melbourne

    - There's bugger all in the way of IT work other than in the 3 eastern state
capitals (Syd, Briz, Melb). Adelaide, Darwin Hobart and Perth while wonderful
places to live are rather hard to find IT work in. It does exist but it's a lot
harder to find. Rural towns even more so. Check the usual websites seek.com.au,
    monster.com, jobnet.com.au etc
