HID conversions?

I have emailed him, a couple of 35w units would probably be the way to go.
Does one carry a spare bulb in the way of Halogen kit or are the bulbs
everlasting and it's a spare ballast that might be needed.

TBH I don't bother carrying either. If you have a bulb go, it's probably
going to be a sod to change by the road side [1]. Ballast probably
easier, but I've never had one fail on any of our vehicles.

    YMMV

Based entirely on my experience of fitting to 3 cars and letting someone
else fit to a bike. While they are nominally a direct swap, drilling the
lamp back (one off, of course) allows the cable and grommets to be
passed out the back. IME it's all a bit tight for fun, to say nothing of
really making sure you don't touch them.

Thanks for that Mark. They won't fucking listen, of course. So long as
*they* can see, **** everyone else.

I am not the chemist you are looking for.
Indeed. My point was that the term "Xenon lights" includes both proper
HIDs and the much, much cheaper drop-in-replacement filament bulbs which
use Xenon instead of Halogen as a gas inside the envelope.

    Example :-

While I can absolutely understand and appreciate the physics behind
this, I still think it's overstating the case. All of my vehicles have
passed MOT's with HID bulbs, one which failed (expectedly) on the rear
fog light. (So it's not like they weren't checking the light)

There are some pretty broad assumptions in there, particularly about
    bean patterning.

Do you stop everyone that dazzles you with HID's and ask if they were
    original fit, or replacements?

I mean *seriously* no one I have asked about our vehicles (and that's
quite a few, prompted by the discussions UKRM passim) have felt dazzled
by them. As stated elsewhere, they've all also passed MOTs which I have
no reason at all to think were lenient in any way.

OTOH I have certainly been dazzled by poorly adjusted bulbs[1] of both
HID and standard halogen. I don't find HID dazzling any more frequent or
irritating than halogen dazzling but I'm not really in a position to
    perform rigorous gathering.

The colour tells me they're HIDs, and frankly I couldn't give a ****
    whether they're original or not.

+1 I've read that before and think there's a certain amount of
scaremongering. Mine have passed MOTs too, which I know doesn't make
them legal, but at least proves the pattern is ok.

I've been dazzled by *plenty* of factory fit HIDs. mostly in cars < 3
years old, which leads me to conclude that many of them are not set up
    right in the factory.

I had some nonce tailgating me on the A64 week before last. His lights were
so badly adjusted one was off to the side and the other was like a high
    beam.
I pulled a car type stoppie and forced him to a complete halt.

Hold on just a cotton-pickin' minute here then - are you just against
HIDs in general, or people that fit them aftermarket?

My porker and saab are both oem HID and AFAICT the don't dazzle. Sure
people flash me (as the beams are very bright) on the odd occasion but I've
never seen an oncoming version of either and thought "oh yes those are set
too high" or "oh you cnut".

I don't think the kit I fitted to a bike displayed any sort of faulty beam
    management either.

That seems to be getting more common as well, or maybe I'm just getting
    grumpier.

I have very good night vision. Overly-bright oncoming headlights are
physically painful for me. They are predominantly HIDs.

I think it was invented by Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
