HID conversions?

And your point would be? HIDs in general are shit for anyone who had to
look at them from in front. Bodged-in ones fitted where they shouldn't
    be are more so.

I, and apparently many others, disagree with your analysis. This is the
basis of healthy debate, for which UKRM is justifiably famed.
    Or something.

As I recall, our Alfas have exactly the same lamp unit for OEM fit HIDs
as they do for conventional setups. The only difference is in the
self-levelling kit bolted onto the electronic height adjusters. Not a
big issue to me - especially as I have self-levelling rear suspension.

I quite agree. They seem designed to give the driver a better view at
the expense of blinding on-coming drivers. Fucking selfish if you ask
    me.

You both seem to be ignoring the facts, stated several times here. OEM
lights, whatever they are, DO NOT blind, any more than the
    old-fashioned ones.

In point of fact they are capable of much more precise focussing, and
hence cutoff, so they're able to deliver much more light without
blinding oncoming traffic. The flip side of this is that if
incorrectly fitted they will deliver a lot more light to the oncoming
    car.

But please, don't blame the technology when it's only the
    (mis-)fitting thereof that causes probems.

I thought I might leave a Perl of wisdom regarding that.

However I am going to try to get Ruby to play with my Python instead.
She's a nice girl. She's got a bit of a Lisp but she has lady lumps like
a CAML. I love a good AWK at them when she can't C. If she drinks ALGOL I
can have a good Delphi around in there. Forget first base! Last time I
got to Forth and She didn't have a CLU. ;)

Yes, I can see that - it's why they're fitted OEM by reputable
manufacturers. However, there are plenty of circumstances, such as a
bumpy road, brow of a hill or a heavy load in the boot, in which an
oncoming car ends up below the cut-off and in the glare of that "much
more light". The best you can say is that on-coming cars will be
affected less often by cars with HID lights, but more severely when
    they are.

You are the Voice of Reason. Though obviously everyone must be free to use
their headlights of choice as long as no optic nerves are severed in the
    process.

Frankly, despite driving every day, I haven't noticed the problem! Badly
adjusted SOC yes, HID no. I think we both know WUN took way too much acid
as a yoof and it sensitised his night vision.
